Do any of the BT brethren have first hand experience with the Tecnam 2010? Gas or diesel, I’d like to know the good, bad and ugly.

My only pirep is sitting in a dealer aircraft at an AOPA event. Spaciously designed cabin with excellent visibility.

My daughter is in the aviation program at Baylor and they chose Tecnam for their fleet. She doesn’t have a ton of time in 2010s but so far she loves them. I could get you contact info for whoever is in charge of maintenance if you’d like.

I have looked at the single and twin tecnam planes and look like good quality and set up nice but talking to the mechanic working on them there seems to be some warranty work going on and he is having issues getting parts. He said they were having issues with water getting in fuel if they sit out in a rain. I’ll see if I can get a picture of it next time I’m out there. I’ve never flown one though.

I haven't heard anything negative about the maintenance or performance. I've heard some complaints about difficulty checking the oil level, and they are built very light so as a trainer they are having some issues with longevity on interior parts, doors etc. Rotax engines are pretty solid, liquid cooled and easy to deal with. As a personal plane I think they would be great. The 2010 uses a Lycoming. Either a 360 or 390. (Or diesel)

Comments I heard directly from Tecnam owners is that they are very dissatisfied with tech support and warranty compliance. They say that they are left hanging by Tecnam-Italy, with no reply and no follow-up, even tough they purchased factory new aircraft. Otherwise, airplanes fly well.

He did all his training in Technams through Baylor and now instructs in them. Tuition is not for the feint of heart, or wallet. He seems to like them and they are well appointed with avionics. Ask your daughter to look up Ross Biltz. Daniel

as much as I like this aircraft it is Italian and Italian products have a bad reputation for service. think Ferrari and the news we hear about the Avanti. beautiful elegant designs
as for performance it is underpowered compared to a Barron etc. so to get good single engine performance compromises needed to be made

The P2010 with the 215hp seems like it could be, or should be competition to the Cessna 182. If someone is going to buy a new 4 place certified single with G1000, it appears that the Tecnam can compete in that space. It would be interesting what real first hand owner/operators have to say?

I flew a Tecnam Astore light sport for awhile (really liked it), and there is an active owners/pilots board… check it out: https://tecnamtalk.proboards.com/I know a lot of those owners personally and also a former dealer; I’ve also spent time with them at OSH and always enjoy their display. It’s a family owned company that sells exclusively piston aircraft, which is a rarity in today’s GA world. I like the people; service is variable in my experience but generally good. They have a service center and parts warehouse in Sebring, FL so they don’t depend on Italy for most parts. Agree the 2010 is very nice; I’ve heard several of them on freq so I know there are a fair number flying here in the US. However, they are slower than a 182, faster than a 172. Very comfortable and nice cockpit layout. Nice looking airplane. If I was you, I’d spend some time on the owners forum (all really nice people in my experience) and then get a test flight from a dealer and see what you think. Good luck!!
