Present company excepted, but; why do I get the feeling lately (not just on BT), that some are just now seeing Russia as a serious threat?

Do we need to re-institute the draft just to expose Millennials to world politics?

I’m going to completely expose myself here:

I didn’t see them as a threat. I’m 60, so not a millennial.

And it wasn’t because our past president seemed to trust them so much. I started thinking better of them sometime around the time they hosted the Olympics.

Those of you who knew better? You’re better students of history than I, I’m sure. There were plenty of detractors when we (as a nation, or at least… well, you know whom) seemed to be placing a large amount of trust in them.

Now? Putin seems all the more evil because of it.

Correct.

The only thing I have against the average Russian citizen is that many are too easily duped. But it seems that's happening here a lot too.

the measure of a free country is a free press

and even better a press that is required to have what they say based in evidence. that does not mean there won't be misleading information and competing conclusions coming from that information but all the evidence is available to everyone.

As a tennis fan, Russia right now is as good as it has ever been, with medvedev and rublev and Karatsev and kachanov among others with a lot of good commentary and great interviews especially from medvedev and rublev. Of course they avoid the war topic. The women’s side too with many of the Kazakhstan players being originally Russian.

So just when the Russian people are being represented is the best positive light to an international group of fans the war took off. Seemed like the sun was finally rising on Russia and then pointless Ukraine took off - so sad

I think we all wish we could be the best of friends with the Russians. Tough when people are dying daily due to uncalled for military aggression - how does Putin sleep

Which feelings or emotions do you share with Putin that you think might keep him awake at night?

I think none.

Great series. Since when did anyone not see the Soviet/Russian Government a threat? History repeats. It's not the people, just the people trapped by the people in power.

GenXer (the eternal pessimists) raised by pre a WWII Era father. (The generation after the greatest, and before the boomers) Gives me some unique perspective...

Anyway, good series. Each episode is about 30 minutes and engaging.

My favorite documentary ever.

Patton certainly had foresight when he advocated pressing on and dealing with the Russians after defeating the Germans. I am not saying that would have been administratively, politically or militarily feasible (at least not without taking unacceptable losses), but it does show he had a pretty good crystal ball.
