with AI meddling in videos... Will this be a real?

I am sure that you can make a live stream of a 747 landing on Jupiter.. and be completely realistic.

NASA says it is real. But they faked the Apollo lunar landings.

SpaceX is also in on the scam as they launched Hakuto-R on a Falcon 9 in December 2022.

Since we can't trust anything any more, why don't we all just tune out and go sit on the back porch where we can wonder whether the world is flat or not.

Of course the world is flat. I just set down my beer and it didn’t roll way!

Things aren't looking good for the lander :(

They had telemetry right up to landing, but have lost communication and don't seem to be able to get it back.

That just means whoever built your porch wasn't drinking beer at the time and got it level.

I have seen numerous counter examples.

Unknown if the telemetry we were seeing was accurate, but if so there was simply too much vertical velocity near touch down for it to survive intact. Too bad. I was rooting for them.

Very possible unscheduled rapid disassembly.

They may get a bill for littering...

Looks like it ran out of fuel prematurely and fell from about 300 ft high to the lunar surface. Even at the moon's lower gravity, that's going to be a destructive crash.

I think a bill for littering is more likely.

More on this:

https://spaceflightnow.com/2023/04/25/j ... g-attempt/

"A preliminary analysis of data from the spacecraft indicated the estimated remaining propellant was “at the lower threshold,” then the lander’s descent speed rapidly increased, ispace said. If the spacecraft ran out of propellant, the lander’s engines would have shut off, causing it to fall to the surface."

Their modeling of fuel usage for the trajectory is wrong, or they leaked fuel during the unusually long transfer phase, or they need to design a more efficient trajectory for landing.

Reminds me of the Apollo 11 fuel time remaining call outs while Armstrong searched for a suitable place to land.

That's too bad. They came very close.

Never run out of fuel.

And always file an alternate.

Wait... what? It's never IMC on the Moon!

They sent it 240,000 miles and run out of fuel in the last 300 feet :bang:

Yes I'm aware it didn't fly itself to the moon on it's own fuel

I guess it would not take much to run out of fuel... If you tried to save weight and send it with the exact amount needed.
If the telemetry is just slightly off, and requires a little more slowing down, it would consume huge amount of propellant.
May be a good lesson about the fact that you always need extra, just in case... Expensive lesson. Math is good, having extra is just common sense.

Even if it’s always VMC, they should still have a 30 minute reserve.
