This problem has been resolved with an FAA approved process to add blade length and overhaul the blades for under $500 per blade. This is a big deal for the Ultra and all of the Legacy Citation series. I am sending in a set next week and will report back. It has been almost a year. What was the result of this Ultra HT blade regrowth process, does it really work and is it cost effective? Mike C.

It was very successful. They came back looking brand new. Total bill including reblading the disk ($10K profit mark up for shop) was about $60K.

Was that regrowing all 71 HT blades or only those that failed dimension check? At $500 per HT blade, that works out to $36K in blade work assuming they all went through the process. Did any blades fail and have to be replaced? The next step will be to see if the blades now last as long as replacements would have. I'm still leery of the -5D engine. I'm happy with my old fashioned -5A engine, and the fact I can Garminize my plane. If this blade regrowth works, and we get a digital autopilot option, then Ultras become a more interesting airplane. That's right, I wish I had the ability to rivet blades into disks but I don't so we have to use a shop. They marked up my direct to pricing up about 12Kish. Then, the rivets/collars/balancing/shipping was another 20Kish. Presto, you're at $60K for the entire procedure. But much better than $500K for installed new ones!
