It's not very often I get to do some Widgeon formation flying. At the Leeward fly in today, we had 4 Widgeons there.

I offer this poem:

Oh, Grumman Widgeon, you graceful bird,
With wings that soar, and engine that purrs,
You take to the skies, and leave the earth,
A magnificent sight, of endless worth.

From sea to sky, you effortlessly glide,
Over mountains and valleys, far and wide,
Your propellers spin, your engines hum,
As you fly above, in the light of the sun.

Your body is sleek, your lines are pure,
A masterpiece of engineering, to be sure,
You were built to last, to withstand the storm,
To carry us safely, to our final form.

With every flight, you remind us all,
Of the beauty of the world, so vast and tall,
And as we soar high, above the ground,
We know that with you, true freedom is found.

Oh, Grumman Widgeon, you are our guide,
Through the skies, where dreams and hopes reside,
May you always fly, with strength and might,
And bring us closer, to the stars at night.

Always liked Widgeons. Came really close to owning a Piaggio Royal Gull (and regret not getting it).

Always wondered what happened to the Gweduck kit? Seemed to be the perfect solution - a modern Widgeon in composite that could land in salt water etc.

Great sentiments Mike! I share them wholeheartedly. Let me know when the future widgeon get-togethers are, I'd love to make it down and join the fleet sometime. I'm getting mine out tomorrow actually for a trip.

I took a demo flight and it was truly a terrible flying airplane! The Widgeon really flies incredible. The Gweduck had horrible controls. And yes, I agree the royal gull is a beautiful machine.
