Anybody know anything about the homebuilt T-51 Mustang with a Honda Pilot 3.5 V6? There's one on Barnstormers for $175,000. Looks cool, but also looks like a good plane for me to break my neck in, not being a tailwheel pilot. ;)

Check the accident record. Scaled, experimental P51s seem to crash a lot.

I’m offering no analysis of why. Just observing that I have seen more reports than I would expect.

I would probably add to that statistic if I tried to fly one. Evergreen Airlines had a really nice P-51 that they kept down at Marana for awhile. A very famous female acro air show pilot came down to Marana to take the plane up, and she ground looped it.

There it is. I don't know what PSRU means. I hope it's as good as SWMBO I just learned about. ;)

Propeller Speed Reduction Unit?
Auto-engine conversions probably require a gearbox. That said, I can’t find PSRU listed in the ad (I probably need new glasses!)

There are several PSRU's to pick from.
Some with a cogged belt, some with gears.

Go into it assuming insurance is not available.
As mentioned above scaled Mustangs have had a history.
Also Auto engines in airplanes have had a history.
* The sum is worse than each "component part" in the insurance game.

The nose to mains looks way too long, while the mains to the tail looks way too short.......I don't KNOW, academically if this is a problem, but, it looks like one to me.

Then there is the engine..........(although, Honda was probably a great choice for longevity/durability.....)

wow that's a lot of money for a 1-seater with a car engine

for a single seater, I'd much rather have an RV3 or Onex vs that thing

I 1st met Patty there at Marana in the early 90s when she flew the T-28.
She has flown our P-51s some. Seemed to do ok.

From my eye either the MLG is too long or the fuselage is to short. That 3 point attitude means you have a long arc of pitch rotation where P Effect is trying to turn you sideways. Doesn't look like a 3 pointer is doable.
