I doubt that they have a triple redundant control system which IMO should be mandatory. If the fly by wire stuff craps out above 20 ft AGL the parachute isn't going to save you. Even close to the ground, a control fault at 60 mph isn't going to be pretty.

Triple it is.

"Only a few minutes of training are required to fly the craft." :bugeye:

Scary is an understatement.

I agree with them that you can learn to fly it in just a few minutes of training. After all, we have new pilots flying Cherokees with a few minutes of training on discovery flights every day.

Oh - you want to fly *safely*? That's extra.

It’s a computerized drone. The occupant is not required to do anything more than provide input to determine direction, height, and speed to their liking. Want to land? There’s a button for that.

Is there a button for following the FARs? How about weather limitations? Stopping distance vs speed?

Of course if the user never gets above 5ft AGL, pretty much all they need to know is how to avoid running into things. People who buy snowmobiles and PWCs etc, are free to operate them with no training (with mixed results safety wise) and this is probably no different as long as you stay close to the ground. Hopefully at least that is explained in the 5 minute training.

If they have half the stability and handling of a commercial drone they will be a real hoot and safe (ish) as well.
Hell my DJI's have obstacle avoidance for less than 1 AMU. For 95 this thing should be safe as hell :D

Mandatory like part 23 or mandatory like part 25…. Or like ultralight rules?

If it’s not for commercial use you may be very disappointed.

It's categorized as an ultralight. The vehicle is not required to be registered or marked, the occupant is not required to meet any aeronautical knowledge, age, medical, or experience requirements. While FAR 103 is controlling, the lack of aeronautical knowledge requirements make it unlikely that anyone will read it.

A lot of you are looking at this from a pilot’s (killjoy) perspective. I’m looking at it from my 12 year old son’s perspective. All that kid wants to do is jump his bike. He has a wondrous nearly insatiable need for a few seconds of air time. Some day that will lead to this. I would rather see the 18 yr old version of him flying a Jetson around. It would be much cheaper than the hospital bills.

It's like so many things about stages of life
The people who would want one, can't afford it
The people who can afford it know better.

The bushes and trees are really starting to encroach on the narrow 1/2 mile long driveway at my cottage. I think I have come up with a solution.

That's just amazing. I would have never have believed it without seeing it work.

I was just thinking this should have a good application in commercial hedge trimming. Really cut down on the workload and make it fun :D
