Not sure if this has been posted before but I find the rebuilding of this 401 very interesting to watch. They are basically tearing the whole thing apart. Some interesting finds along the way. This is the most recent video but you should start from the beginning back in December of 21.

I’ve been watching it. It’s a good thing it’s being funded by the internet’s. He is not fixing the wings… saying it is only going to fly 50 hours a year? Why? Doesn’t make sense to pour all that money into it and then not really use it.

Yeah, they were strangely happy when they found out that the wings have 500 hours of remaining life, per their expert.

I think you are referring to the spar strap mod that is required at 6500 hours, not that the wings are timed out in 500 hours. An acquaintance has a 401 and intends to proceed with the strap kit - it is expensive but he likes the plane ( seats seven or 8 and has a 1200 pound payload with full fuel ).

That makes more sense.

Want to know something even more interesting?

Jason also owns our very own Arnies old K-35.

Loving this rebuild, and the rebuild of Sams biplane. Starduster I think?

And Mu2s and IARs. We probably share a passion for the oddballs.

If it can be sold Bill loves it and it’s great.

I am just happy the views make it worth continuing to work on versus sending it to the big beer can factory in the sky. The one attempt at a reality "fire" had a few people hot under the collar.

Really enjoying this series overall as well! I haven't seen the latest video, but my biggest surprise as another oddball airplane owner was the video showing the GA-7 Cougar and the fact they now own three-ish between them ha! I really hope they get that one flying again, but if he does part it out I'll be first in line. They are super fun light twins to fly!

Absolutely love ours, all Cougars aren't dilapidated and unloved ha! Curious to see more of their 401 progress.

There is a guy in Cheyanne Wyoming trying to bring the cougar back. Went to France, bought TC, brought tooling etc back in containers. Last I heard he was seeking investeors, so sounded out of money to me. I talked to him, sounded nice. I think still on internet. I wish him luck
