Now that's prop sync.

Not magic. The prop/rotors are connected by a cross shaft. In the event of an engine failure, one engine can power both rotors.

Still, as with all hover capable aircraft, too many moving parts flying in formation!

While I can appreciate why it might need to be that way, it sure seems like it would make for a punishing cockpit environment, with two sound and pressure waves beating both sides simultaneously.

Similar concept in the Chinook helicopter. Of course there it's essential to have synched rotors because they overlap.

Actually, the sound and vibration will be minimized by having the rotors synced this way. The pressure from both sides will be equal and opposite so they will cancel in the middle.

If the props were out of sync, then things would be much worse.

Watching the Chinook with the naked eye, all I could think was — just miss; just miss! And they did have some problems with that. We lost a platoon in RVN when the blades got out of sync.

The Osprey rotors are subject to lighting up from static electricity, worse in dusty conditions.

Just what you need; your rotors lighting up for the bad guys to see.

Nice safety feature for the ground crew!

Don't worry, they can aim at in total darkness just based on the noise it makes.

This is not a stealth aircraft in sound, sight, or radar signature. It is the equivalent of an aircraft haka dance.

After Army flight school in 1971, I was given the choice between Cobra transition and Chinook. I liked the Cobra because I could 'reach out and touch someone' with the Cobra. Glad I went that direction.

"Not a stealth...."

No, but generally it's a not a good idea to light the aircraft in combat areas. ;)

My perspective on the Chinook is it should be used in more secure areas or accompanied by attack air craft when landing in a hostile area. In hot landing areas, we used the smaller lift helos--UH1s in my time. I can understand using them more aggressively at times when larger landing zones aren't available, but they're higher risk in that the enemy can concentrate fire on fewer aircraft and they have more men or material board.

Not a problem. Marines are use to punishing environments. ;)

For Bell tilt rotor vs Sikorsky coaxial rotor high speed cruise how does the radar signature compare.

Are the vertical spinning disks appearing solid to radar?

I see the V tail on the newer generation version for the Army I’m assuming was for reduced radar return but with the rotors can anything be done?
