Is it possible to upgrade a Six 260 to a Six 300 at overhaul? RayJay has an STC (SA1557WE) to normalize the 260 but it does nothing to increase total HP.

I have owned both and personally prefer the carbureted straight valve 260 to the angle valve injected 300. It is bullet proof and allows for a higher useful load, runs cooler, hot starts easier and burns less fuel.

It is a completely different engine. Case, crank, sump, cylinders are not interchangeable.

Thanks. I've been hearing that the 260hp engine is actually better in most cases. My trips take me into the Rockies. More HP would be nice. The 260's takeoff chart stops at 7,000'.

In Utah the 260hp Cherokee Six is seen as just adequate on power or even a little underpowered but the Rayjay STC would be great. The engine is bulletproof and give a great deal of confidence but it needs a bit more boost at our altitudes.

Gonna have to pile on here. A TN 260 is a utilitarian powerhouse in my book, only trumped buy a TCed IO540 which gives up longevity as a trade off for HP.

I flew a turbo Saratoga in the mountains a lot. the long tapered wing coupled with full power up to about 17,000 made it a great performer.

a turboed six could be a real nice aircraft.

There was a RayJay'd Six 260 on TAP about a month ago. Lowest priced airplane of all the PA32 Six listings @ $92k iirc. I would have taken it more seriously had I known then what I know now.

I've also done some digging on the 205 which is an early 210 derivative. It's essentially a six seat 182 with a rear cabin door and 260hp (IO-470-S; also on RayJay's list). They're not nearly as common as the Six but look like a good/better alternative. 206 prices are still stupid.

Suggest that you look hard at the 205. Not well known, but an excellent hauler with good handling. Doesn't have the cabin size of the 6, but having flown both, I like the 205 from a pilot's perspective (handling, ability to carry a load and get out of a field) better than the 6.

Doug Ranz is on the forum and has owned a 205 for some years.

I would prefer the 205 for all of those reasons.

Inventory is way up from just a few months ago. These piston-single six-seaters are just not $150k airplanes to me though.
