Peter is developing a hybrid-electric ducted fan twin aircraft called the Raptor NG. This go around it is not pressurized. I wish him the best of luck and look forward to his updates.
This, IMHO, deserved it's own thread. This is the original Raptor thread - viewtopic.php?f=49&t=123165

Yeah, except not.

That went up back in October and nary a peep has been heard since. We discussed it briefly in the previous thread.

I think the Raptor project is done.

Yeah, it was kind of like a bad reality TV show that you can’t help going back to.

If we could take away his 3D modeling software we could put an end to the scam now.

I think at this point the project is self-ending.

But what about ducted fans anyway?
Obviously they don't work or it would have already been done... but not sure why.

Can it bridge the gap from propeller benefits to jet benefits?
(low speed grunt and efficiency of moving a lot of air / high speed jet-like* cruise by a fast moving squirt)

Why not it work?
1) well they sorta have to be in the back or in the wings if twin - maybe that is enough to make it implausible.

2) ?

I wasn’t participating here on BT when (apparently) this project was being talked about. But, I did watch a few of his videos, and I’ve got to be honest… this guy should not be designing things that can get people killed, or land on somebody’s head.

I formed that opinion well before he was turned down by professional test pilots to fly his poorly executed aircraft design, and before he himself smashed it up, amazingly without killing himself.

Certainly, there are concepts that he used which might be ok, but there wasn’t anything novel. It’s all a rehash of what’s been done before. Any smart team could do something similar, without the drama.

Plus, taking money from people to fund his project is sad.

Almost all airliners have ducted fans driven by turbine engines.

I have a pair. They work nice.

Those fans in your Citation use a few thousand horsepower (each) to make them go ‘round. The Raptor Fan will need several hundred horsepower to have reasonable performance (without getting into single engine or making the back of the napkin math too complicated). That’s a pretty big electric motor(s) and battery pack.

I wish him luck, but you cannæ change the laws of physics... and aerodynamics.

(edit: changed a vowel pair for a diphthong)

Well yes, right but... WRT to piston engines.
Is there any juice in that squeeze?

Nobody likes pushers tho...

Piston ducted fans require very high RPM........just look to the R/C airplane world. All the "jets" used to run on ducted fans with nitro piston engines. As soon as viable r/c turbines came on the market......piston ducted fans have pretty much disappeared.
