This question came up amongst a group of my fellow aviators at my local airport…

Would a 337 fit in a T hangar where the top of the T is only 15.5 feet deep from the front doors on each side? The hangars are 32.5 feet deep and 40.5 feet wide, so it would fit in that regard, albeit a little tight. Just for reference, I easily fit my previous C55 Baron into a hangar that is the same size of the one about which this gentleman was asking.

Being that the wings are a little further back on the 337 than say something like a 182, I don’t know whether there is enough room to back the airplane in far enough before the backs of the wings run up against the shallow section of the T hangar without the nose hanging out the front.

I’ve seen a couple of POH‘s that give some overall dimensions of the airplane, but I cannot find anywhere that says the distance from the trailing edge of the wing chord to the tip of the front spinner.

Has anyone else had to answer a question such as this before, or maybe know where I could find the answer without a tape measure and a 337 in the flesh to gather facts?

Thanks!

They do fit, but you need to bolt chocks to the floor to prevent the wings from hitting the columns/walls if you go in too deep. There is barely enough clearance from the nose spinner to the door when the wings have maybe a foot of clearance to the walls.

Thanks, Glenn.

I had a similar practice with the Baron. The floor was taped to indicate where the chocks went and there was a lot of RTV sticking it to the floor.
