so what are we excited about, the potential 10-15% difference in the ordinary income tax rate vs the capital gains rate?

There's no avoiding it....bonus depreciation is not free money, and anyone who describes it as such doesn't fully understand it

The tax rate difference floats my boat. If I sell the plane right now and get full recapture, there will still be six figures of free money in my pocket I didn't give to the government.

Not everyone's tax situation is the same; some can use bonus depreciation in ways others can't.

Depreciation gets recaptured at ordinary income tax rates.

Word on the street is that jet inventory is increasing but prices haven't (yet) come down.

I am quite sure we are on our way to a recession. How big and how long is still an open question.

Sounds like when I bought my house in late 2006. Oh I wish that were green.

Assuming the lack of use was financially driven, this wouldn't happen, because they wouldn't fly personal either.

While looking for an Avanti I toyed with the idea of a Premier. I bought just before things got crazy. If I remember right there were 12-15 in the market then. Looking today there are 18. Prices feel 50-75% higher now.

Will be interesting to watch.

And for those that complain about the Williams program - I pay the same hourly cost for PT-6 engines. But I don’t have the minumum usage charge the Williams carry.

Adam, are you including inheritance’s and trust fund money?

No, I wasn't. But even with those, unless the fortune depreciates, it does take some kind of work, albeit perhaps easier.

I know several beneficiaries that would give it all back in a heartbeat if it meant not having to deal with the family drama that seems to come with an inheritance.

I received a large, unexpected, inheritance, then got sued over it for 10 years. Me nor anybody in my family thinks of it as “free.”

Re the Premier: I got on Aerocor's mailing list when I was considering an Eclipse a few years ago, so I get their marketing emails about various planes. They sell Premiers too - recently got a note about a Premier that had "fallen out of escrow," and was back on the market. Subsequently got a "price reduction" email about the same plane.

Now, Premiers have their pluses and minuses to be sure, and have not participated as much in the price runup as some other jets (or so it seems to me), but even so, I found that an interesting data point re the market.

My parents (parent) don't have much but I told my mom and dad to take me out of their will and give it to my brothers and sisters (4). I have much more than they do and I'd just piss the money away on aviation anyhow!

I actually sort of appreciate having to endure a decade of litigation over it- the litigation was so miserable that it assuaged some of the "didnt earn it" guilt.

for context, it is a 5th generation family cow calf ranch in S. Central Texas, by way of my great uncles 21 page handwritten will. I found out the morning after he died- I was 25.

I still operate it. And my kids love it. No complaints here:-)

I begin to wonder if the un-economic current turboprop prices might reenergize
the *restomod* aircraft business one more time. Commanders, Conquests, various Caravans, Ikhana X2 Twin Otters, etc. etc. Not to mention the sun shining ever more brightly on Jim Allmon and Blackhawk.

I'm a fan of restoring older airplanes because you can realize the performance of new with almost the same level of avionics now that Garmin has certified the GFC600 for so many airframes. But if you can't get insurance because it's an older, out of production turboprop then the model doesn't really work.
