Flying south of Chicago yesterday and a B-25 came on freq. The controller queried his type, and the pilot answered North American B-25. I love that plane, but I didn’t know any were still flying.

There are a bunch flyable across the US and a few/couple? in Europe/UK.
Many of the airworthy ones are listed here, how current I don’t know.

Wikipedia puts the number of flying B-25s at approximately 45. I can think of about a dozen just off hand.

There is one at Fleming (KSGS) that I suspect Doug flies. Takeoffs remind me of Doolittle's "sporting" departure off the Hornet and always draws a crowd.

It’s been my privilege to fly Show Me for the last 11 years. Here is a picture of her on a private strip just west of Glacier National Park . Search Stonehenge in Montana. The B-25’s stay fairly busy.

Not a 25 but we did have “Doc”, one of two airworthy B29s fly over the lake yesterday. They were on their way to an airshow in spokane this weekend. Unexpected treat.

Hey Martin and Doug, what a glorious polished finish Lady Luck has!
There was a B-25, Executive Sweet, based at Camarillo (CMA) where I learned to fly, which I saw fly occasionally. There’s another one owned by the CAF near me at San Marcos (HYI). Aero Trader at Chino (CNO) is perhaps the leading B-25 restorer, and they always seem to have a couple.

Doug didn't mention he flies several of them, is an instructor, and check airman, and DPE.


A neat plane, but one I've never been privileged to fly. I'm sure glad people keep them going.

2009 (?) I guess it was that I did my SIC type on the -25 with Gunny as CFI and Allen Wolpert as my buddy trainee (Allen and I also did our MEL together, years earlier).

Outside of needing 3 hands to start the engines (same with other radials I've flown), and once you get up above something like 125 mph (give me some room on this number, I'm not checking it), it flies beautifully. Taxiing is, as my old friend Randy would say, is a bitch-kitty. But, get to the runway, get good speed after liftoff, and it's a peach.
