Demand for and valuations of all aircraft have escalated significantly since Mooney’s closure. No plane is perfect, always compromises. And there is value here. The current M20 iterations are rather awesome and capable travel machines. Maybe if they stuck an electric motor in it the valuation would be multiples of the current asking price… Why is this still available in this market or what price gets it snatched up and producing planes again? It seems to be a very successful strategy for making the proverbial small fortune in aviation.

Curious to know the details. That’s what I was thinking. They just put a bunch of money into tooling and manufacturing there. Maybe the corporate owner just needs to unload it quickly and get it off of their books. If someone were able to buy the brand, the factory, tooling, intellectual property, and everything else at that price, they might stand have a chance at turning a profit in a few years.

I owned a Mooney Bravo for eight years and loved it.
That being said, the Mooney ship has sailed, long ago.
Time to have a memorial service, a 21 gun salute, and move on.

If you want an amusing read, sign the NDA and read all the "future strategy" bits.
I love mooneys, as they're perfect for my mission, but honestly, Al would be rolling in his grave...

The value of new airplanes has not escalated much (other than to keep pace with inflation), as opposed to the value of used airplanes. Plus if you can only sell 5-10 new airframes a year, it will take a long time to recapture that investment. The real estate and machinery might be worth something in a liquidation but the market has long since spoken on new Mooneys - they stopped attracting buyers relative to the competition several years ago, for a variety of reasons.

Eric, I have a bunch of those from my trip to Southern Africa several years ago. My father-in-law would say the USD is headed in that direction, Lew Gage says its already there!

I had a Bravo for 8 years also and loved it. Wish I could have justified keeping it, such a pilot’s plane and a fabulous traveling machine for two people. I know it’s been hashed over and over but if they could have figured out a way to manufacture and sell 201s for under 500k I believe they would sell like hot cakes. I know, “if” is the biggest word in the English language...
