China takes the long view unlike us where anything more than a year or two away is too far to plan for.

Many US companies have been taken because the US executives looked at profits in the next few years and China planning what will happen 10 years in the future.

to really understand the oriental mind read "the art of war" by Sun Tsu

It lays out how China plans to dominate the world.

I wonder why is it that nations (or their leaders) feel compelled to dominate the world?

Maybe it's not the interest in dominating per se but rather the fear that "if we don't do it to them, they'll do it to us".

from my experience doing business in both Europe and the Far East is: the basic view in those areas is "how do I make sure my children/grandchildren have a good environment?" vs the US view of "what is in it for me today"

they basically culturally think long term. there is a reason most Americans don't think about how they will pay for their old age until they are 50+

do you know of any CEO in the US that is bonused on the results 10 years from now? it is always "how did this year go?" the only companies that think long term are family owned companies and they basically do not exist in the US any more.

China has so many structural problems I don’t know where to start. The fascinating one to me is that in 80 more years their population will only be 800 million, give or take. That is a loss of 400 million. The demographics of their policies will catch up with them and then who knows, it is happening right now that they will get old before they get rich.

If you want to consider something really terrifying, the population of Africa will quadruple in 80 years, to 4.5 billion, unless their is some virus that comes along…….
