If that wing is laminar flow, the transition will matter.

In Piaggio - bugs costs u 5 kts. Rain up to 5% of speed (per poh). Speed tape on leading edges - 15 knots. Polishing leading edges so it looks like a jet costs 10 - mainly bc that creates a transition that is impossible to smooth out as well as a fully bondo and sanded surface (the original way).

Tbm 930 got a ton of speed from an aerodynamic cleanup and I don’t believe they added power.

How much speed does leading edge tape cost on a bonanza?

I may want to remove some tape.

I'd expect small surface imperfections to matter in a laminar flow wing, but not much in a conventional wing like on a Bonanza or Baron.

While there is lots of discussion, I haven't seen convincing numbers that even boots make much of a difference on barons.

The Mooney Ovation/Acclaim laminar flow wing with TKS panels is impacted by ~4-7 kts for info purposes on average.

There's about a 8-10kt difference between the early widebody 182s and the R models. I think the T has a few more knots in it, but I've never flown one

If you guys dug this deep into media stories and politicians platforms the world would be a better place.

I’ve said before most folks on BT aren’t Cirrus’ target market. I can count on one hand the number of folks on BT that have bought a NEW plane since I joined 8 years ago.

There are fixed gear C-182 STC Kits out there that add fairings where the nosegear strut enters the cowling and items to seal up the gaps on the wing flaps and ailerons, ect. So maybe more than 5 mph on a 182.

You should use Speed Tape then!

Who does buy new planes? (serious question). Unlike cars, there you gain a lot of real functionality with better airplanes - and I think new almost always ends up more expensive.

I purchased a new left over 2019 m350 in August of 2020 because of fly free for three was equivalent of the used prices and in September of 2021 I purchased a new M600 because of 5 years of warranty and other free items.

Roughly how many hours a year do you fly? I can see it making sense if you put lot of hours on the plane so operating costs dominate.

I fly about 150-200 a year but the reason for the M600 purchase was that I could get insurance before I turned 70,the insurance that I was quoted would let me continue to fly the aircraft that I was in for a period of time after age 70 but it would not let me move up to a higher performance aircraft.

Excellent targeted marketing. The average Cirrus customer is young and well off. Walk into a Cirrus sales center and you are treated better than a high end car dealer. The only close analogy is Apple or Chick-fil-A. No snobbery. Its approachable and very appealing to their target market and it works. Beech is locked in 1947. No future. These old worn out air frames with ridiculous asking prices are reaching the point of diminishing returns which makes buying new appealing. I will never be in this market but if I was Cirrus is where I would go.
