I don't have lot of experience in multiple types of aircraft, but the Cheyenne IIXL has been an excellent all around plane. Mine has the Blackhawk and 4 Blade props. It is so forgiving in all phases of flight but you have to be careful with the drag from the 4 blade props. I wait until red line before rotating and if you pull back the power it will slow quickly. I could see someone get in trouble pulling the power for a steep descent and stall if power was not added back after levelling off. Wouldn't want to get distracted at the wrong time. This is the only "Gotcha" i can think of...otherwise is a great tool to slow down. Love doing short approaches.

My Dad has a 58 Baron, and I think the Cheyenne is very close in operating cost. Cheyenne also fits in the hangar.
