Ha! It's almost light enough for two-hand carry. Maybe with carbon nanotube ultra unobtanium* construction the weight can come down even more.

$100k to go 15 minutes

This thing is about as useful as one one of those water-powered jet packs you can use to "fly" tethered to a jet ski

might be a huge amount of fun - but 100k worth ?

I'm looking at the eight unguarded cuisinart blades on this machine that ostensibly will be operated around people and other soft objects. Never mind the noise they'll make just doing their normal job.

No, that article says it's an ultralight -- no N-number and no pilot's license. Sold as a kit but still an ultralight, not an E-AB.

I think you meant ultralight, not Experimental Amateur Built.

In that article it says among other things that it meets all the ultralight requirements including the 5 gallon gasoline capacity limit :D and that you don't need a license to fly it.

You can get one but it's just an inflatable.

Honestly, I used to fantasize about this exact thing when I was a teenager. A few decades later, somebody's gone and built one! (Albeit for a hundred grand, but they did it.)

In the forest? I've seen how that ends.

You use to fantasize about an inflatable Jane Jetson? :D

Just kidding of course. It just came across funny on my phone because your comment immediately followed the Jane post.

:coffee:

But seriously, a personal hover bike that lets you cruise down a path through the woods, a path that mere mortals have to walk or pedal a bicycle under their own power, and having the ability to whisk yourself away at will, through any gap in the tree canopy at the flick of the wrist.

This is really great stuff!

(Pay no attention to the $100k price tag or the probably ~15 minute endurance of the machine... or the hazards of several mature hardwoods in the Endor forest.)

I wonder if the $100k price includes a trailer so you can take it back home after you run the batteries down?

None of these things have great utility based on range and speed, but they sure are cool. I’d probably be much more interested in the Black Fly from Opener. I saw it at Oshkosh and have watched the videos of it in flight, pretty remarkable.
