If NASA had believed for a moment that he’d done anything wrong, there’s no way he would’ve been named commander of both Gemini 3 and Apollo 1. I always felt the same way. I'm not even sure where Wolfe got the idea to crucify Grissom like that.

They found many more problems than just the wiring and the hatch. If it hadn't happened, it's unlikely that we would have made it to the moon. Those problems would have compounded over time and caused a disaster further along in the program. The LM was badly behind schedule, too. I think that delay helped them catch up. Had the LM been on schedule, they would have attempted the moon landing 1 or 2 missions earlier.

He took a lot of "creative license" in depicting several other incidents shown in the movie that were not correct.

But it's still an awesome, almost operatic flick, one of my favorites.

So much would likely have been different. 100% O2 was nuts. Were Mercury and Gemini capsules 100% O2 ?

Thread drift:
If you are reading this thread, you’d probably like the AppleTV show: For All Mankind.
It’s an alternative history show based the premise that the Russians get to the moon in June 1969.
Some things in the show are the same as actual history, but others are slightly different like John Lennon is shot but not killed, etc.
