That is a good point - depends on how tall she is. A 152 is not a bad choice - they are really quite fun to fly and I think some are OK for spin training. The PA28s are good too. my view from your description is: she wants to learn to fly and if I were in your shoes with adequate resources money is not the objective in this situation. I would bite the bullet and get the right aircraft as the first experiences are incredibly important that they be good ones and using a cheap, not good trainer will really get in the way of her enjoying the experience. Go buy the Archer and get her started. as I have found, having a supportive spouse for my crazy hobbies is incredibly great. IMHO you want her to spend her time flying and not dealing with difficult to fly aircraft, having a difficult time scheduling time (rental situation) or an aircraft that breaks down. My wife is interested in learning to fly as well although I'm not sure that she is 100% committed. Either way, with two little kids (ages 2 and 3), now isn't the right time for her to start...
But having gone from a Cirrus where she could at least get the family down safely if I had the fish to Citation Mustang where she has no real chance of getting it down in one piece, I would be very glad if she was a pilot.
Anyway, at some point I'll be going through the same calculus and I think I'll probably have her train in an SR22. She has a lot of right seat time in one (although usually she was reading a book or dealing with kids) so it will be familiar and ultimately neither of us have any real use for 110 kt trainer flying so even though I did all my primary training in a C152, I don't think she needs to.

Tell her she takes her own a$$ to each lesson and pays from her trust and doesn't get any landings when you're onboard.

Tarver- I’d go with the Cirrus SR20. Capable, relatively forgiving and modern. The chute doesn’t hurt either for peace of mind- More so for her. Good platform from which to learn and to step up within your fleet as well. We’ve used it in our family as a primary trainer with great results.

So I bought her a low time 172rg and flew it home from Indiana. It checked a lot of boxes: new interior, garmin, 345, autopilot, engine monitor, complex but not that complex. I got my commercial and CFI and one of these 20 years ago, these are undervalued machines. 135kts TAS at 11 ish GPH with 60 gallons. It’s a useful machine. Navomatic is actually mostly functional. Can she handle a slightly more complex machine…I am confident she can.

Nice, I got my commercial in one as well. As you well know keep a close eye on the power pack and saddle condition. More than one gear up from these issues.
