Dizzy yet?? She is doing great. I’m giving her interim lessons between her real CFI. We are getting along fine and she’s having fun. Hard to get this bird to stall. I also showered her with gifts today.

This is a great thread, Michael!

We are in a similar situation as my wife is a Dentist and also learning to fly, lol. She has been using the local rental 172 and hopes to take her check ride in the next few weeks.

We just bought "her" a Husky, as our eventual goal is flying Idaho, Utah, and Alaska in a pair of bushplanes. I know the tw transition will be challenging, but she is motivated and capable, so we will see.

She has many hours right seat in tailwheels, Bonanza/Baron/Conquest so she was having a hard time getting excited about buying a 172 or like aircraft, even though we both knew that would have been the smoothest option in terms of training, getting her instrument rating and gaining experience. I think the 172RG is a great option, as you get the great flying qualities of a 172 along with the "interesting factor" of the RG and a little more speed.

Brent

She has 25 hours now. I flew with her today and did 8 take offs and landings without me touching the controls. Should I solo her? I’m a CFI CFII MEI but this too close to home to be logical but I’d like the honor of doing this. Maybe 2 more sorties tomorrow then solo?

What does she think?

She feels good! I haven’t asked regular instructor but will tomorrow. I’m going to give her a pre solo check with with retired Air Force Pilot I think

Enjoyed the Thread and my wife just took her written after about 10 hrs flying and I am going through the same process, we own a light jet and a King Air and it looks like I’ll be buying a 182 or something similar as well. I had not had anything to say up until this point but if she is ready than solo her ! Overthinking it and delaying it will only make her anxious! You should have done it spontaneously after 7 take off and landings without you touching the controls and had her go home feeling good!

…as my bud Carousom says over on the Mooney forums, just PP thoughts, not an actual instructor!
