We actually got started with Eagle’s Nest Projects (Ernie Butcher) who funded our first 3 RV-12s. This Rans S-21 was funded by a generous donor that believed in our mentors and school staff to carry the program on in perpetuity.
Ernie told me that after about 3 years it would be difficult to keep solid mentors. We’ve been very fortunate with volunteers and student body.

I wasn't aware of that that's an amazing program!

I’m hoping to be in a position to call for an inspection tomorrow. I’ve been working to get the ailerons rigged and just ran out of time today. Once this issue is resolved, we are ready.
We have a gentleman from the FAA who has come out to see our students in action twice and speak to them about careers in aviation. He works locally in the MIDO and said to give him a week once the online requirements are sent in. Once the inspection is complete we still have to close up the airframe for initial flight testing. When we are satisfied that the airplane is up to our standards and after it runs through our “make ready” we will hand over a pristine example for him to fly off the remaining time requirements.

Enjoy an opportunity to see mentors in action with our lone student. This is what drives us to go back year after year.

Ponder this:
If you install the ADAHARS in backwards, it reads 180° out and refuses to calibrate until the battery dies.

And the lesson learned for the kids is priceless........... They'll take that experience everywhere they go, I say.

After a long wait for insurance, we’ve flown twice. Reported that only a bit of rudder trim is needed and the prop pitched for more RPM. Otherwise, it flys good right out of the box.

Congratulations Mark. You made it!

Thank you for giving so much of your time to make this possible for the kids.

These students are pretty amazing. It’s a lot of fun to play devil’s advocate when they are debating one another on how to go about solving a problem. They are some deep thinkers.

I learned that upside down will do something similar as well... Great project!

This thread will soon come to a conclusion. The student mentor that so diligently assisted on this project for two years will get opportunity to fly it today along with the CTE director (one at a time of course). Afterwords the transfer of ownership will be signed off and the new owner will receive the necessary training (per insurer) and take this airplane home.
It’s been a long hard test phase too get the CHTs under control. After bench testing the fuel servo and increasing the flow rate with little improvement we replaced the ignition system with Emags and our issues have been resolved.
