I have a Model X P100D Ludicrous and it's pretty much the fastest car I've ever driven. Not sure I'd shell out the money for it again as I found after the first few launch demos, with no sound from a motor or exhaust and no real drama, it's kind of boring.

But I'll never give up the autopilot.

Years ago I was involved in a small partnership and we made a valiant attempt at starting an aviation battery company based on getting Hawker's AGM batteries PMA'd for GA pistons. (they have turbine batteries)

We become enthralled with battery power and built an electric pit bike. We took a new Honda CRF 50 and replaced the 3.5HP four stroke engine with a 15HP Briggs and Stratton ETEC motor.

With the gas engine top speed was about 32MPH and it would get there whenever.

With the ETEC and 4 12v Hawker (Odyssey) Batteries... top speed was 60MPH and it would get there damn near instantly if you could figure out how to hang on!

Someone needs to develop an aftermarket electric generator / supercharger that bolts on in place of your alternator and gives an electric motor boost to a conventional gas engine. BMW had a version of this, but I haven't thought about it in years.

Glad you guys are fans. I'm not of the cars but think the company is awesome. Maybe I'm just old school but this is more to my liking (analog but still plenty of torque):

Im with you on the analog cars, but I need torque. Porsche has 1200/850 to rear tires and daily is the Ram TRX was 702HP.

Oh, Mike C, the Tesla doesn't do 0-60 in 3 seconds, more like 1.9.

That's how long it takes my Pajero to even start responding when I floor it!

I do think Bentley knocked it out of the park on the design of the Mulsanne!

I’m not Mike C, but I posted that. Yes, the latest model S Plaid does 1.9. My Model Y Performance, which is almost “cheap” by comparison, does it in 3 secs. It is adequate for getting around town in traffic. :)

Tesla is talking about a "SpaceX Edition" which adds cold gas thrusters that will get you from 0 to 60 MPH in 1.1 seconds.

That's 2.5 G lateral acceleration.

The FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) does not have a "gas thruster" section that I am aware of. I can't imagine this being street legal.

Even at 3 seconds, it is close to 1 G.

Mike C.

My previous car had an accelerometer/g-meter screen in it and it would show over 1g when accelerating. But under braking I could get it to 1.6g and that's when I became obsessed with great brakes.....yet I bought I phenom... :bang:

Something's not adding up here with 15hp & sluggish to a max of 32mph, tho could be reasons for that

Clutch issues, maybe? Maybe that bike used a centrifugal clutch when it had the has engine and no clutch when electric?

Well, my 1970 Fiat 500 does 0-60 in......need a calendar for that one. Helps if it is downhill. Amazing the performance numbers of modern automobiles.
