Tesla has long since sold too many cars to allow buyers to get the tax credit. It ran out about end of 2019. Tesla is 80% of the current USA EV market share, 2 years later. Oddly enough, Indiana, my state, basically fines people for buying an electric car by levying a yearly excise tax. The stated reason is to make up for gasoline road tax one wouldn't pay. $150/year. My gas car pays about $40/year in state gasoline taxes, so it would be a tax increase if I had an EV. Airplane owners are perfect EV owners. They don't drive long distances. My car hasn't been out of 3 counties in years. My next car will be electric, likely not a Tesla. The choices are increasing dramatically now. Mike C.

Regarding Musk and subsidies, while I don't generally agree with government subsidies, I have taken some myself and I don't begrudge Musk for accepting that which was offered. And, look what he accomplished with those subsidies. Most government subsidies are squandered. Compare what Musk accomplished with his to say what Solyndra did with theirs.

Yes, I should have mentioned, I've had my pilot seat cut down approximately 2".

How much in govt subsidies has he received? I’m not trying to be cute, I genuinely am curious. How do the subsidies compare to the benefits received? Was it a good or bad trade by the govt?

According to this thread Musk’s companies got 4.9 billion and Soylendra got half a billion
The Russians where charging 86 million per seat for a trip to the ISS
SpaceX is charging 55 million per seat so we are saving 31 million per seat thanks to Musk and SpaceX
According to my math in 40 trips to the ISS he will “pay back” what his company’s have got
Making rich folks less rich will make us all less rich. Look at any country that tried it so see the proof

This is entirely true. I bought a Tesla and haven’t been to a gas station since. It charges in my garage overnight or whatever. I like it more than I expected. It is not without flaws but is good. Electricity per mile costs roughly 25% of gasoline per mile, for me. The best thing? 0-60 in 3 seconds is completely awesome! I have the lowly model Y performance edition, not the bonkers Plaid anything.

Tesla's are awesome machines . Drove one to Florida from Ohio a couple years ago .One of the best trips I ever made forced me to stop more often & take a break.

I want instant throttle response. If I can get a car which can power the house in an emergency that would be totally awesome, too. Mike C.

And it’s really the house side that’s not as ready. Mixing and matching storage and inverters and auto-switching from different brands isn’t quite viable to purchase and plug and play. You may have enough capabilities to cook up your own with some effort, but most people don’t. It feels to me like another year to two will probably result in more options available in the market.
