Work smarter not harder XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX "PTT" Who talks on the radio while sitting on the toilet anyway?
As has been hinted at, in the earlier days of BT there was a frequent poster aboard who thoroughly enjoyed stirring the pot, to the ire of more than a few. He flew a PC12 (formerly an A36), posted strong opinions on most everything, and mentioned one time (in passing) that a PC12 was so safe & easy to fly that he would spend some time in the head as needed because he had a PTT installed in there. A few believed him, got all revved up, he enjoyed the subsequent slugfest. Gary S

Mike C. I'm waffling on the 75 when the plane goes in for the NXi upgrade. I've flown with the current radar (68 GWX) for the past 8 years and it has been ok at best. But then we don't really fly around much convective activity. I was all set to pull the trigger on the 75 until they released the 8000 and that has a few features that make using it a lot more intuitive and hands off. But I'm not certain the 8000 is coming to the G1000 NXi yet as it's only available on the 5000 currently I believe. But I'm willing to wait and see. Does the radar overlay on your map? Chip-
Mine does. The immediate startup of the digital radar and additional colors is a game changer in my view. I usually have the radar and stormscope over the map on the GTN 750, ADSB on the MFD, and XM NEXRAD and Lightning on our Aera. They're all different and complementary.

The Garmin avionics log lots of data data every second, including weight on wheels, so it becomes relatively easy to compute ground roll. Yesterday, departing KVPZ, in my Citation V: Elevation: 770 ft Temp: 17 C Wind: neutral (direct cross) Runway: flat, level, dry Weight: 13,570 lbs (3,300 lbs fuel, 4 people) Vr: 96 KIAS Book figure runway required: 2,540 ft (assumes engine failure at V1, 35 ft and V2 achieved) Actual ground roll: 1,580 ft Actual liftoff speed: 115 KIAS The takeoff was not in anyway special, but the plane was brought up to static takeoff thrust before brake release. The speed at liftoff was much higher than Vr, 19 knots fast, indicating a more aggressive rotate would have shortened the runway required. As it was, Vr (96 KIAS) to liftoff (115 KIAS) was only 3 seconds of elapsed time. V1 (89 KIAS) was only 1 second to Vr (96 KIAS). Net result is that the ground roll was about 1,000 ft less than the book take off figure and it could have been shorter with more affirmative technique. I have been very impressed with the Citation V ability to use short runways. Mike C.

Max zero fuel weight 12,200 lbs. Max fuel 5,814 lbs. Full fuel payload 1,043 lbs. Max payload 2,957 lbs. That is an average 328 lbs per seat, 9 seats. Max zero fuel weight leaves 3,900 lbs of fuel, ~1000 nm trip. Zero fuel weight from the factory is 11,200 lbs but mine is raised to 12,200 lbs by a service bulletin which lowers Vmo from 292 KIAS to 276 KIAS. This is very common, few don't have this change and the lower Vmo is not a significant operational issue. Max ramp and takeoff can be raised to 16,500 lbs and 16,300 lbs by STC, but this lowers landing gear cycle life (particularly the main gear which losses ~1,000 landings of life). My airplane does not have this STC. It seems to be 50/50 in the fleet. Mike C.

Now I just need to find a 60x60 box hangar at KSQL….

If you view it on a large screen, the speed tape will be more visible. The "click" is the gear lever interlock releasing when airborne, that's liftoff. You will also see "GND IDLE" caution light go off, and PFD left screen switches to airborne mode. Mike C.

The harder you worked, the luckier you got. Funny how they work together.
