Only problem is 10 or more seats puts it into the Part 121 realm instead of scheduled Part 135, so that creates a few more hurdles.
I don’t believe that’s a correct statement.

Part 135 aircraft with 10 PAX seats or more have different maintenance requirements.

If you are running scheduled operations of 10 or more, you have to be 121 certificated. Unscheduled you can run 135 up to either 19 or 30 passengers I think.

Thats the hurdle, you can run 9 passengers in a Caravan on scheduled airline service all day as Part 135. That means you can operate single pilot, or have a co-pilot that only has to have a commercial ticket. Once you hit 10 seats, for scheduled pax service, you now are in the 121 world, and have to have an ATP rated co-pilot.

David, the differences are not exactly like you say, here are some clarifications:

My understanding is inline with David’s.

When the ATP rule came through and jacked everything up, Great Lakes was having a really hard time getting ATP-qual’d folks into the right seat of their 1900Ds. As I recall, the work-around was to disable/remove 10 seats and operate under 135.

On that note, isn’t this unpressurized? It’ll be stuck below 10k feet with pax? BUT it could almost pull double duty as a combi.
