Mooney had always seemed to make planes too far ahead of their market that never really came to fruition - m22 (p210) -> m301 (pa-46) -> and then the m301 became the tbm, of course.

Seems like this could have been an alternate platform to the Silver eagle. Would have looked better with a longer nose and a turbine prop anyway.

Many years ago I yearned for one. The performance numbers looked pretty good, but they were pretty rare airframes years ago. And the numbers that are airworthy these days has got to be very small.

Here is an interior shot of that Mustang. Look at that massive gear handle.

Curious that that is has a JPI and current Garmin transponder and boat anchor 170 radios. Wonder how that JPI got installed, no STC surely.

There is/was a small and passionate M22 owner group led by Charlie Reeves. I met him and his M22 many years back. I can’t seem to find him or that org online. I hope it’s just my search.

He was always insisting that prospective buyers call as he had the history of each plane. Some had better maintenance history and he could guide buyers accordingly.

Ok, I know it’s AUS. It struck me as pure comedy though.

Side bar

I spent a week in Townsville back in 1999. Navy boat pulled in and let us caged animals off to graze. There was a place, I think it was called Tims on the River where I ordered a steak so big, it was folded over in half on the plate. I’ll never forget that dinner. Someone also bussed in bunch of ladies for us to make friends with. 100s of them. One guy even refused to get back on the boat; he fell in love! He showed up about a week or so later, and went right to the brig. It was a crazy week!

Is there any commonality between the M-22 and the TBM700? Just curious.

No. But there is commonality between the TBM and the Mooney 301. Wing and control surfaces in particular. Similar door design as well
