Holy rigging, Batman...

Kidding only but why the large power lever split?

The power is the same but levers off. We are still trying to dial things in and adjusting the fixed wastegate on left. May need turbo on left.

This plane has been flying for 2 years after parked for 23 years. Original 1900 hour engines. Have spare engines ready to install but so far these are still going. Been in the family since 1979 and 300 hours.

Hey guys, thanks a ton for the replies.

What's with all the hate for the 530W? I can pick one up for about $6k right now, and Garmin still supports them. A new IFD 540 is $14k, and GTN 750XI is $18k. The plan is to fly the 530W until it doesn't work anymore and then upgrade to an IFD 540; my assumption is by then the 540 will drop in price once it's successor comes out. The IFD 540 is essentially a slide in replacement for a 530W, so no installation would be required. Do the new boxes really provide that much more capability, or is it just an improved interface?

I'm also a guy that's a lot adopter of electronic gadgets. I was rolling around with an Iphone 4 until last year, and just upgraded to a 7. I honestly find little value in the latest and greatest electronics; I'd honestly rather take the $8k difference between the 530W and 540 and install Merlyn wastegates with GAMIs, but that's just me. ;)

I think most here consider it false economy to do a fresh installation of old technology. The effort/cost to install any GPS COM is about the same for any option, so the conventional wisdom is to maximize the utility from that expense with a newer box, even if it costs more.

Having said that, I'm still using my 530W/430W combo and steam gauges and don't feel compelled to upgrade. I would only consider doing a fresh install of the older tech if I could work a supervised DIY/sweat equity deal that wouldn't be possible in a new unit because I'm frugal (cheap). Maybe use the Approach Fast Stack bits so a future upgrade would be much easier? YMMV I think buying a used 10-20 year old box is a gamble as you don't know if it's sat outside in the heat or humidity, been in a flood, whatever. Who knows how long Garmin will support them, and at what cost?

A 530W plus GAMI's and Merlyns is a good option IMO though, especially if your can work a deal on installation.

Yes, there were 250K Continental Mirages out there a year ago. Good luck finding anything like that now. It’s one of those things I enjoy looking for.

That is a couple of bets that I will not take. If the 540 is the only remaining slide-in replacement for the 530W, I expect Avidyne to hold firm on 540 pricing.

Where are you located?
Makes a difference on the utility of pressurization.
Pressurization is a game changer.

The GTN750 is so much better than a 530...Go with at least a used 750 instead of a new 750XI.

Should be lots of used KFC-200 stuff out there right now , see if you can fix your KFC-200 for less than 6K. Its an awesome autopilot, connected to a solid-state attitude reference...(G500 G500TXI or GI-275 and it gets EVEN BETTER)
That upgrade should also get you altitude preselect for the KFC-200 if you don't have it now.
If your KFC-200 problem is the HSI or Attitude indicator a GI-275 might both improve and fix the KFC-200.

I got burned with an experimental autopilot STCd for my 182 and I won't go down that path again. The dynon might be really good, but my 182 experience has soured me on that path. I'd have to go see and fly one in the EXACT same model of airplane I'm going to upgrade before I'd choose that path again.

You will find your Dynon panel less valuable when selling than a Garmin panel - not sure how good the Dynon is, but the market certainly likes Garmin equipped planes. Might factor that in. As others have said, you could find all the KFC 200 components readily available - I have lots of them myself - at low prices. Spend your panel money on GTN 750 and enjoy your Seneca.

I have been from twin to single and back again....oh, maybe 6 times. I love pressurization, and if I could afford it I'd fly a King Air. (I fly one for work, but...can't afford one for me).

My experience is the little stuff, and the opex, is more frequent, and expensive, on a pressurized twin. (I've owned 340, 414, 2 Aerostars, 2 P-Barons). I've had 3 different NA Barons, and to me, they are cheaper, on average, to operate.....both on fuel and maintenance, and I suspect now insurance would be a factor.

I really enjoy reading posts like this one. The voice of experience - pure and simple....

Seems to me your trips are too short to justify a faster plane. If you sell yours as is, the buyers will beat you up on price given the AP issues and gps etc. garmin will likely drop support of 530 soon. Upgrading what you have probably best option, dynon or garmin.
