So a lot of well respected expertise on Beechtalk, so a group question...

I am having an impossible time to find a hangar for my DA62 which is going to force my hand on selling when my current hangar deal ends very soon.

Market seems very hot and I see slightly used airplanes across the board selling for same price as new. Diamond DA6s market the same or is this aberration due to no supply limited to the piston single market?

Original list was $1,417,000 and total time about 175 hrs. One year left on the warranty, always hangared, no damage, loaded including radar, professionally flown.

Any experts out there on a valuation consensus?

Happy Flying!

Ask 2.8m and let the bidding war begin.

Nice ride BTW. Maybe one day :btt:

There have been quite a few people ordering new DA62s lately, so the market is definitely in your favor. Somebody ordering a brand new DA62 from the factory today will find themselves facing a 15 month wait (possibly more). People will pay for instant gratification, so you can probably get back what you paid for it, or at least close enough not to matter.

I'd be happy to swap my DA42-NG for your DA62 so it will be easier for you to find a hangar in which to store it. ;)

Chris, I would consider a trade but unfortunately the same problem. T hangars that are available have 40' doors, SR22 barely fits.

As I know DA 62's are out to Q3/2022 and with a 3% price increase.

How do you like the 42?

Thanks for the msg!

Some people must live in the “wrong” place. I’ve got a hangar that fits it. Even has company to keep DA happy. Nice discount and it is off your hands. :)

Seems like a weird excuse to sell… Park it outside or pony up for a shared hangar until one comes available.

Park outside while you keep looking. If it’s gonna be a while, spend some money on a good cabin cover (maybe even wing and tail covers if you’re so inclined) and bank the difference between tie down and hangar rent in a paint fund.

BLUF/TL;DR - You may have done some of this already. Reach out to Neal and Chip. Look at one of the 3 other large airports around you. Have your pilot talk to the FBO operators. You are talking to the BT family already.

You may end up really close to the sticker price you paid before all of the fun taxes even with nearly 200 hours. Some of the 2022 models are already going for $1.5M new and we probably have another year or so of this craziness according to the rumor mill at Leesburg and Manassas. RUMINT at KJYO is that the factory has a backlog of 12 months and there are 4 planes/production slots going over sticker, via brokers/dealers, once it's all said and done. Diamond has a DA-42 demonstrator up here but I haven't talked to their salesperson. Then again, that is what is being asked but not what someone has paid and its just a few of us hangar flying, FWIW.

Honestly, I would reach out to Neal and get his take as well as what it would cost for him to deal with the tire kickers and find you serious buyers or a referral. If you are seeking to move up to a turboprop, Neal and Chip both would be worth a call.

I don't know your area or hangar availability. If this is professionally flown, have you considered moving the aircraft further out and just have the pilot ferry it to you for the flights? Granted, that adds probably $120-$200 in ferrying costs on the aircraft per flight and may impact the working hours of the pilot. We have a few owners and owner/pilots that have their pilot fly from Martinsburg and Winchester to Leesburg due to hangar availability. Manassas has $1M airframes baking on the tarmac waiting for decently priced hangars. You aren't burning up start cycles on the turbine, motoring the starter an extra 15s-25s, or using pressurization cycles on the airframe with a DA-62 when it gets ferried over. That is just a thought.

Hopefully your pilot knows everyone on the airport already and has asked around but it never hurts to add a post to BT asking about larger hangar availability or shared space with the heavy iron. You tuck into a front corner and back corner pretty nicely. Sometimes the FBO price is double the price of the T hangars but it can be worth it to have a cool airplane AND usually the tow in/out is free minus the $10 or $20 tip to the line person.

Edit - I had snipped a few paragraphs but wanted to clarify that Diamond isn't charging extra for the aircraft or the production slot. Those are available via customers via brokers/dealers.

Thanks for all the comments.

Ferry pilots difficult to find, that does not work. Home base is Naples FL, there are no community hangars available, that doesn't work. Ramp tie down... never, recipie for disaster eventually, that's also out.

So, living in the right place but with the wrong airplane apparently. The DA62 is going on the market and I have a new SR22 coming which fits in my T-Hangar. Tail wagging the dog with the DA62 logistics just not worth the hassle.

Happy Flying All!

I would suggest listing it at the same price for which you purchased it. Then, set a time limit, say two weeks or every month and reduce the price by some percentage (2% or 5%) until it sells. It all depends on how quickly you want to sell it. The only reason something doesn't sell is because the price is too high.

Good luck with the sale and with something that can fit in whatever hangar you can acquire space in!

When you had mentioned professionally flown I was thinking of a full-time paid pilot on your staff that could work the details and aircraft movement. Often I forget that we are all aviation professionals and professionally flown can mean the business/aircraft owner! :pilot:

You will sell it quickly; there are basically zero used DA62s for sale anywhere in the world so it should get snapped up really quickly. I just ordered a new DA62 and will have it managed by a company here in Houston in their community hangars (with TBMs, my M600 and various jets). They do a great job moving the planes around. Don't rule out professionally-run community hangars - they really are life savers because larger hangars are hard to find, as you now know.

Heck, I probably would have bought your plane had it been on the market a month ago! So I expect it will sell quickly. You could also contact Premier Aircraft Sales in Fort Lauderdale. They are one of two US Diamond dealers (they may have sold you your plane now that I think about it) and they handle used aircraft sales. They have a long list of people interested in Diamonds, some of whom may not want to wait 15 months for a new plane. If you use them, it may never have to go on Controller.

You will also like the Cirrus - I flew one and very much liked flying it (but was not a VIP-in-the-back person!).

Good luck!
