I fly a lot along the coast there, and have for years. It is very prone to small, slow moving "air mass" thunderstorms that can cover up an airport for a while, but it's fine 5-10 miles away.
It's also an area where either onboard radar or staying visual and looking for cells or rain shafts is preferable to datalink, which can be deceptive.
