That's very impressive. Great airplane!

My initial impression of the KA350 was that it had a lot less luggage space - but I think it is bigger than it looks. The 350 may be equal or better than the 421, but it isn't nearly as nice to load and unload. Nose compartment access and wing locker access is much better than hauling up the stairs. If I am by myself with the King Air, the stair process requires a few iterations: heft a few bags into the aisle, climb up and stack them in the luggage compartment, climb down to heft the next group of bags, . . .

Thanks Dan,

Yeah, I'm strongly considering a B200, and baggage space is a consideration. I think wing lockers would be a good idea for me.

I always wondered why Beech didn't open up the nose for baggage like in the Queen Air - now that avionics don't take up so much space. It just seems like it would make so much sense. Or why Raisebeck doesn't have an STC for a nose baggage modification...?

John,

I'd love to have a mod to add a nose baggage door. As you may recall from your thread, it is about $70k.
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=188805&hilit=nose+baggage&start=0

You'll be weight limited in a 200. For an owner-pilot unafraid of a type rating, a 300 or older 350 is a bargain relative to a Blackhawk 200.

Best,

Dan

I forgot about the $70,000 baggage option. That seems a bit steep to me, but perhaps not.

Yes, I’ve heard B200’s are somewhat limited on payload. I have also heard Chip espouse the virtues of the 300 versus the B200. I just don’t know if I’m up to the challenge of a type rating. I kind of like the idea of operating a 200 as if I was in the military.

Your thoughts?

John, with your crew go straight to a 350.

One of the 90’s came with nose baggage standard (maybe C90-SE if i recall).... but a 90 isn’t going to get the job done.

I would stick with the 425. great airplane !!

john, my wife and I have gotten a kick out of watching you and the family in your Kabota ads...she came from a family of 6 girls!
Yes, agree with others, beautiful family and beautiful plane. I drive a C-182....love it, but don't see a turbine in my future. We are almost neighbors, we are based at 84R.

441.

You'll feel at home.

Fast, more than 300 knots any day of the week.

Roomy, longer cabin that 425.

Space for baggage.

As cheap to operate or less than the 425 due to thrifty TPE331 engines.

Long range, which you can trade off for more useful load.

Somewhat expensive to get, which is an indication of their qualities.

John,

The 300/350 type rating is a one-time ride. Unlike jets, an annual FAA proficiency check is not required (though insurance will demand recurrent). Pilots like to whine about type ratings and tell everyone how hard they are - lots of exaggeration. You and your family will feel better knowing that you have met this minimum standard.

If you are serious about King Airs, try to get 20-25 hours in the right seat - 300/350 preferred, but 200 and 90 are close enough. With that foundation, sign up at FSI Wichita for the type rating course. After that, even if you opt for a 200, the insurers will be impressed by your type rating. It will pay dividends.

If you're happy in the Cessna family, the 441 will have more speed and range - though not sure where it gets payload limited to the point it is down to 350 range. My 350 is reasonably light (G100 NXi). With me and full fuel, I have 1900 pounds remaining. 1900/your 7 = 270# each. When you're carting a few boyfriends around and get up to 10 pax, that is still 190# average. Lots of room for mission creep.

Thanks Sanford. I’ve flown into Smithville a few times. Nice airport. We’re opening a new store just down the street from you in La Grange. Come over for coffee sometime, I’ll meet you there.

Mike,

I seriously would buy a 441 if I could get a 20 year-old airplane and not a 40 year-old one. That’s the biggest reason why I’m considering moving out of the Conquest. It’s just too darn old.

But yes, I agree...a 441 is unbeatable.

Love that space in the nose, and also that red paint! Did you do the paint scheme or buy it that way. It’s a beauty!

I had it painted at Murmur in Houston in December of '19.

John,
I owned a 414A and a 421C before buying my 501SP. The twin Cessna nose baggage is an awesome feature that always gets the job done. Works brilliantly to balance the cabin passenger load. I still have a 1977 Cessna 414 but it needs a paint job. I absolutely love your paint, can you tell us what exact paint colors were used on yours? I don't think I can afford a Murmur paint job but at least matching the colors would be awesome. Also, if you have more photos of the paint job from different angles that would be nice if you are willing to share.
BTW, you have a handsome family!
best regards,

I don't have the colors in front of me but I think it's Matterhorn White and Firecracker Red.
