This HAS to go in "Brand X" because I don't know where else to post it;

This just came from President Biden:

"We’re going to talk about commercial aircraft flying at subsonic speeds — supersonic speeds. To be able, figuratively, if you may, if we decide to do it, traverse the world in about an hour, travel 21,000 miles an hour".

Has anyone seen spy photos of the prototype yet? Anyone care to speculate on the design? BTW, the Space Shuttle only travels at 17,500 MPH. In space.

Man, I can't WAIT to see this one rolled out...................

Just another politician discussing a subject he knows nothing about. Happens all the time.

For context (not that it helps), https://nypost.com/2021/04/07/biden-tou ... ture-push/

While not mentioned in the infrastructure proposal specifically, I vote to include a Dyson sphere, space elevator, miniaturized fusion reactor, a gravity train and warp drive.

Well of course the Shuttle only flew at 17,500 mph. It was an unpowered glider. Everyone knows gliders fly way slower than powered planes.

I remember hearing Scott Crossfield at Oshkosh talking about his view on this.

From the point of view of the rocketplane pilots of the glory days (X-1, X-15, etc) if you can give them a spec on how far and how fast you want to travel.... they can give you a budget and timeline for what that will cost. Up to now, the budget and timeline have been far beyond what anyone has wanted to pay.

But I love the engineering confidence those guys had. If you want New York to Tokyo in 1 hour, we can deliver. Here's the price. :bugeye:

In fairness, the proposed infrastructure bill would probably pay for most of that. :duck:

In this case, I think the correct words are unfortunately delusional and dementia.

Really?

We can barely go that speed in space. I'm an eternal optimist but.......

Ron -

Don't know where you got that quote, but FLIGHT GLOBAL has it as 2,100 mph...

“If we decided to do it”, such aircraft will “travel 2,100 miles per hour”, he adds

Reams, Biden said it himself. It's obviously a mistake, though it's getting quite a bit of traction in mostly partisan media and tabloid journalism.

Flight Global's article edited Biden's comments so that the quote correctly says 2,100.
