I have just shared this over on MMOPA and thought some here might also be interested.

For those of you interested in grass field ops in the Jetprop; the write up below contains some very nice footage both from the ground and from the on board 360 camera.

https://theflyingscouts.com/hs-tom-ifr-chiang-mai-vtcy-to-phuket-airpark-vtsw-feb-2021/

I am very familiar with this strip and it is well maintained however it is, one way and tight on length which gives me quite a rush every time I have the privilege to land there.

I also use the Sidewinder tow bar to put the plane away.

It has been just under a year since I last visited there pre our own Thai Covid lockdown so it was great to be back.

Most Covid restrictions have been lifted internally in Thailand and domestic travel is now being encouraged.

Enjoy. E

Nice - thanks for posting! What is the field length?

550 meters / 1,800'

But it really is one way with very limited go around opportunity due to rising terrain at the end of 31. Once you commit to landing...

Total flight distance was circa 700 Nm. Total flight time was just under three hours, with HS-TOM burning approximately 90 gallons of Jet A1 fuel.

That’s 30 GPH. Is that right? That’s what I burn to go 660 NM and I’m not doing 250 knots. What am I missing?

The Jetprop is a slick airframe. Flush rivets throughout, Even has fully internal tracks on the fowler flaps, so doesn’t even have flap cowlings. Also a very efficient wing that gives it a glide ratio nearly 18:1. Almost a glider. Cool video.

Channeling the inner 14 year old boy trapped inside this 54 year old body.

If I ever find myself in Thailand looking for an airstrip to land on.... Grass, short, mountains around, Phucket, we are going to land there.

Some fun announcements....
Any traffic in the Phucket pattern please advise.

The turbine lifestyle.

Fast, powerful, reliable, easy, simple.

For sure. I’m guessing though that you pay for that in initial and ongoing cost of ownership, else we’d all have one.

Initial cost comes back on sale, but can be more.

Ongoing costs are not more and maybe less per mile than pressurized piston twins.

Piston pilots assume piston failure rates times turbine repair costs. That's not how it is. Turbines just don't need maintenance like pistons do.

I'm certain my total dollars spent on buy, fly same missions, sell will be cheaper for the MU2 than it would have been for a 421. Maybe the MU2 is peculiar in that respect, but I don't think so.

And, of course, Affordable!

Where's my flying car?

I think that’s the point Mike’s trying to make; there is a point in the piston ownership cost curve that intersects with the turbine cost curve, and that happens at the pressurized piston twin.

I wish I could afford a pressurized piston twin. ;)

Fun to watch, skilled pilot but IMHO this shows a complete lack of judgement. There is NO margin for error. Way too close to trees on approach. Just no margin for error. I wouldn't fly with this guy.
