Question to any dealers out there. Would you sell a brand new Pressurized Turbo-Prop to a buyer with only 50 hours total and no IFR ticket? Would you sell an aircraft of this type knowing that it could not be insured ? Is it okay to sell one to someone who would then fly it VFR at 17,500 or below? I am curious to see if there are those in the business of selling aircraft of this type to a customer with little or no experience in the flight levels or in the system. Pilatus, TBM, Cessna and Piper dealers feel free to respond.

Only if it had a parachute, vision jet maybe?

Then if/when deployed you could sell him a replacement one

If you can afford the ride, you likely can afford the pilot to fly it for you.

Why should they care about any of that? If they have money and want to buy it, and no fraud or illegality is occurring, then why is it any of that the sellers business at all? wire the money, here's your machine.

Wonder if the case in point was implied a pro-pilot/CFI would be required crew? Certainly most mid-size and larger aircraft are likely purchased by non-pilots. Interesting question though.

There are folks who want to do it and have the means, why wouldn’t you sell to a qualified buyer? As others said, they don’t have to be a qualified pilot to get value out of their airplane.

Informed consent. Tell him your concerns. If he still wants to buy, make sure the check clears!

Absolutely I would. This is what makes America great, we get to make our own decisions within the confines of the written law. What my neighbor does should be of no concern to me.

...But then of course I would track his flights of FlightAware and make sure his flight profile looked ok to me, and when it didn’t, I’d be sure to have the local FAAST rep have a talk with him so I could sleep better...

 You serious? What role is the seller supposed to be taking on? FAA? instructor? mentor? pastor? mother?

Start running your business like that, you better have a bankruptcy lawyer on speed dial.

I sold a modified 700hp car to a parent buying it for their kid. This was back in the late 90s when 700hp was a lot. I explained to the parent that I thought it a bad idea and made them sign a waiver.

I think this situation is no where near the same.

Yes, but I'd make him pay the cost of a properly qualified right seater to fly it out. If for no other reason than my conscience and hoping he doesn't plummet into some poor bugger on the ground.

Where's the legal duty?

Should someone sell a C150 to a nascent student pilot?

Should you sell your house to someone that probably will lose their job in 6 months?

No offense, but the question is kind of overcautious. Like a perfectly airworthy EAB being chopped up instead of going to a new home because the builder is afraid of "liability."

Not your concern, let the FAA and the insurance company worry about it.
