Why is this better than, say, a hydrofoil? Speed, maybe? Seems like a light hydrofoil could reach these kind of speeds. It will use a lot of fuel (weight) to fly 6000 nm at sea level. I’m not sure how much it would cost for the tugboat to pull FRED across the ocean, but it would be cheaper than keeping it flying.
