Just noticed there's no thread (that I could find) for CJ2 / 2+ so I decided to start one.

We will be kicking off a CJ2+ acquisition project soon, and I'm currently talking to one of our clients that is thinking he may want to buy a CJ2, so if anyone has any leads on off-market 2's or 2+'s pm me! Of all the checks we write, finder's fees are my favorite!

Otherwise let's talk 525A's!

Chip-

can you post a basic rundown of the specs, and why someone would want a 2+ vs a 2, vs a mustang, etc... what's unique about the CJ2+?

Gary,

I'll post specs and data on the CJ2/2+ the main difference in the two airplanes is Fadec engine controls for more efficient / powerful motors. The CJ2 has thrust attenuators and the 2+ does not. The 2+ came standard with 3 tube EFIS and FMS 3000.

Cessna manufactured 243 CJ2's from 2000 until 2005 and all but 8 are still in operation.

They manufactured another 226 CJ2+'s between 2006 and 2014 and ended production at a time when the airplane was still extremely popular, it is important to note that the CJ2+ was sold during the same time frame as the CJ3 and they still sold 226 of them! Not to mention the fact that there was a financial crisis in the middle of this run.

Cessna brought CJ2+ production to an end in 2014, by then they had introduced the CJ3+ and the CJ4 was selling very well, most CJ4 buyers were moving up from CJ2+'s so we see Textron's logic in discontinuing the line when they did. They did the same thing with the Mustang, build a sustainable fleet of aircraft and then switch production capabilities to the move up aircraft.

Textron is to be applauded for protecting resale value, maintaining sensible production numbers and looking at the big picture by considering the preowned fleet as part of their overall market.

Specs to follow

This info is from ACC, but fairly close. Full fuel range is higher than reality and fuel burn numbers are wrong.

The CJ2+ is the way to go if you have the budget, better performance, slightly better range and better desirability for resale. Having said that, the CJ2 is a lot of airplane for the money and an argument can be made to skip the CJ2+ and go for the CJ3.

Really no comparison to the Mustang, the CJ2 is bigger, faster, more money to acquire and operate, while going backwards technology wise.

It's all about seats, if the Mustang has enough room for you as an owner pilot, you'll love it... for our clients who have a pilot and still want six seats, the CJ2 is the way to go.

If you have 2+ money and don't need the extra cabin, the M2 is worth looking at. Everything that made the 525 line awesome and Garmin G3000!

Politics aside, interest rates are up through the roof for anyone born after the 70s. Buyers are applying more scrutiny to houses, boats, and planes. Buyers agents already do good work but now there may be even more scrutiny applied.

It’s still hard to find a nice F90 KingAir. A few months ago I tried to find one for a friend of a friend and only got a call from the broker of one of the three on the market at the time.

Sorry! I've been caught up in the end of the year rush! In the last couple of weeks we have closed a new Bell 407GXi, a new Phenom 300E, and a B200. I just left a TBM in Orlando and on a flight to LA to finish up another TBM and get them both closed by yearend!

And the FAA is processing registrations on deals that were submitted in May. I'm still waiting on the paperwork to change the N number on my plane that I bought at the end of January. I'm sure these end of year deals have lots of stress on them and the FAA is little or no help.

How about this:

I bought my plane in Dec 2020. As part of the deal, I would relinquish the tail number to the owner. I can't do that until I get authorization from the FAA to do so.

The sale paperwork got rejected by the FAA around Jul 2021. The seller had not precisely used the right form of their corporate name. That got that fixed and paperwork resubmitted.

I finally got the authorization to change the tail number in Mar 2022. Within 5 weeks, I did so and sent back the confirmation to the FAA.

Around Jul 2022, the prior owner needed me to send the FAA a letter releasing my prior N number (their old N number) back to them. They and I thought the forms to do that were part of the sale, but apparently they got messed up somehow. They prepared the letter, I signed it, and it was sent to the FAA.

Literally today, Dec 2022, the prior owner heard from the FAA that the tail number release letter was rejected because I did not properly claim a title of "manager" on the form. Within an hour, a new letter was prepared, signed, and sent.

This letter will now sit in the queue for about 6 months, so about Jun 2023, the prior owner might get his tail number authorization and can put it on his current plane. He will then send in the confirmation of the tail change and then in another 6 months, about Dec 2023, the FAA registry website will properly show that tail number change.

3 years from sale of plane until the tail number change settles out.

I can see why the FAA wants to extend registration validity from 3 years to 7 years, it takes 3 years to get things done!

Mike C.
