Hey guys- great Aztec material here. As a potential acquirer of an Aztec is there a dedicated forum of Aztec owners?
Thanks,
Tommy

You will find most of the Apache owners, and and many Aztec owners on the Piper Apache Club https://www.piperapacheclub.com/

Thanks,
Tommy I looked at a decent Aztec here in AZ last week before realizing I didn't need more airplanes at the moment. Its the one listed down at FFZ, or at least it was listed up until recently. Still available I believe. At least its been in AZ with the same owner for a few decades. TJ

Thanks, I will check that out. Tommy, you are welcome to PM me or reply to this thread with questions, honestly BT is probably as good a place as any to discuss. There are a few Aztec owners on here. The previous owner cancelled the registration and now the FAA assumes the plane has been parted out/destroyed. Best thing to do with this plane is use it for parts. :-(

I'm potentially moving into a 1972 Turbo Aztec E if all goes well in prebuy. Any Aztec owners willing to provide an AZTEC newby with some guidance? Current A36 owner.
Thanks, Daniel

Hi Daniel. Good luck with the pre-buy. Aztec's are great and i'm sure you'll love it. Pay attention to the hydraulic system and dig into how well the system has been serviced. To be reliable, it needs to be serviced annually 'by the book'. Overhauling the hydraulic power pack is an unpleasant job and really needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing. John Talmadge at https://diamondaire.com in Kalispell, Montana is as knowledgeable as you'll find and a good guy. Baffling is also important to pay attention to. Can you download any engine data logs? Understanding where CHT's have been operated will tell a lot. The C1A engine loafs at only 250hp, but they need proper airflow. Well maintained, my 13 years of turbo-F model ownership have been excellent. You don't want an Aztruck 'project'. PM me if you'd like to speak offline. Mark

Thanks Mark, unfortunately the Aztec as equipped does not have digital engine monitor. Both engines and props have under 200 hours smoh, but overhauls we're done in 2003. I didn't have the pre buy mechanic pull a cylinder to get a look at lifters and cam lobes.
It will need a major panel upgrade as everything is original. Looks like there are not lots of autopilot options, so I'm considering STEC 55X. Would be interested in your thoughts.
Thanks for input. As always, BT is a great source

My 55x is 13 years old and I’d give an overall B+ grade. Originally it ran off a GNS480 and now a 750xi. It’s been back Garmin twice in the early years for tracking issue, but been a solid workhorse since. I trust it.

Hey guys- thx for the recomendation to Apache owners forum. I have been soaking up so much information from here and other forums. I find myself in a pickle of deciding on pursuing an Aztec (late model F) or seneca III.
Our mission is 4 people with lots of baggage 300-600nm trips. My wife loves the entry/egress to the Seneca but you just can't shake hearing so many great recomendations on the Aztec. The cabin being actually bigger and taller than the seneca. Larger designated baggage compartments, better landing characteristics, arguably better built? I admittedly made the gentlemen who owns the decked out 71 turbo aztec (N14040) down in south Florida a generous offer but he wouldn't negotiate a price under $400k. I feel like I'm about to pull the trigger on a senecca iii, but feel unsure. Anything I'm missing here? Is an Aztec good for the occasional soft field ? Can a seneca do the same?
