Username Protected wrote: Thanks Jacob, I appreciate your insight. When you do run the pump when it is really hot, do you leave it on during the start, or just on then off? I second the oil door open after shutdown if you can do it. I've done it both ways but I do better with it off when cranking. It always starts this way. I've found that if I tried with it on and if I goofed it up and advance the mixture and it doesn't catch with the pump on then I end up flooding it and then I'm struggling. Today I struggled with the strainer bowl, its leaking from the nut seal. I used a mcfarlane washer/seal with the oring attached and now its dribbling all over my floor. Going to try the copper crush washer again but I think the bowl has been overtightened its kind of indented looks like a difficult surface to seal.

We operate 7 Aztecs, replaced all the fuel strainer bowls with ones from Steve's aircraft, also replaced the ones on the flight school warriors. The old Piper gascolators always seemed a little marginal when it came to sealing. https://www.stevesaircraft.com/gascolator.php

He is now 95 and ready to sell it. Hasn't flown in several years, but has been hangered always. Well cared for but avionics have never been upgraded. Aircraft is in Sarasota area. If anyone is interested I'll connect you and he can answer your questions. PM sent

This is a very interesting thread. I instructed a bit in a PA-23-150 back in 1969. Although it certainly didn’t have the performance of the C-310’s, Baron’s, or even Aztec’s of the day (especially on one engine), it was easy and gentle handling. Steady as a rock instrument platform. And, it taught me a lot.
Later, I was employed flying for a state agency that had a Cessna 310I and a Beech B-55. A sister agency used an Aztec and often the three airplanes would be dispatched carrying state officials to the same destination, departing at the same time. If the Aztec departed first, the Baron second and the 310 last, the 310 would usually arrive first, the Baron second and the Aztec last.

Looks like a much better solution to the original piper fuel bowls

That's amazing. Wasn't that long ago I bought an aztec for $25k. Flew it home on a ferry permit and cut it up, we only wanted the engines. Kept one as a spare for my pawnee and the other is on a friend's RV10

They used to get parted out if both engines hit TBO simultaneously. https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?ca ... e=aircraft244gallons where is it? Extrapolation makes me suspect that you couldn’t fit 244g and any loading that wouldn’t be out of CG aft? Wing tanks just aft of the CG, front seats are just in front assume you have to sit I the pilot seat to fly it not the nose compartment.

Nacelle tanks or storage would be cool.
