The 315 HP IO-580 Lycoming engine is 32 pounds lighter than the 300 HP IO-550-D used in the Air Plains conversion. Plus, there is a Lycon cylinder flow matching upgrade available for the Lycoming that raises the HP to 340.

I added all the Knots 2 U Speed Mods before I painted, as there is never a more cost effective time frame to do so, combined with my Air Plains IO-550 Conversion, my 1977 C182Q net result is less than 800 foot takeoff rolls, 1,500 fpm initial Climbs (more on cooler days) and from 5,000 to 8,000 msl
162 KTAS / WOT / 2500 / ROP / 18 gph
152 KTAS / WOT / 2500 / LOP / 13.8 gph
$88,000 Engine plus new propeller / complete and installed, last I knew
Granted, slower than a Bo and one to two fewer seats, but similar Useful Loads, mine is 1,110 pounds, and that’s an actual recent reweigh Useful Load How fast was it before the 550?
Book speed on a later model 182 is 143 kts on 12.5 gph, and they do it.
Speed goes with the cube root of horsepower, the cube root of 300/230 is 1.093, times 143 is 156. If you're really doing 162 than you got 6 kts from the Kts 2 U mods.
Without the drag reduction, you get 13 kts with a fuel burn increase from 12.5 to 18 GPH. That is an increase in speed of 9%, for a fuel burn increase of 44%. And, an airplane that you used to only fill to the tabs, you now have to top off for every trip.
Worth it? Maybe Cessna knew what they were doing.

which is why you won't see a PT-6 on a 182.....there are reasonable limits. lol Folks that want to go fast....upgrade.

Unfortunately it was a friends who let me borrow it and I don’t own it, but I don’t think I could ever go back to a “normal” 182 again.
That engine makes that airplane a true rocket ship and now I want an IO-550 in my NA 210...... if only I had 80 AMUs....... We had one of these as our jump ship back in the day. There is no such thing as too much horsepower as far as jump planes are concerned. It was terrific. Dan

I have a friend with a 210N with IO-550. I think it will blow the doors off a T210 below 12,000. Great combination of airframe and engine.
