My twin has IO-470M engines. After flights, one of the engines will not run if trying to set idle rpm. It surges slightly and quits. Start, taxi out, and flight all is good, and matches the other engine.

Start, taxi out, and flight all is good, and matches the other engine. This is Jimmy Phillips with the Dean Franklin Widgeon right? I have the same conversion and same engines in my Widgeon. I just heard the exact thing from Charles Weldon who brought another Franklin Widgeon back from Alaska. Mine has done this very rarely after a long water taxi. My friend's McDermott (same IO-470s) did this every single landing. It definitely has something to do with fuel vaporization. I think you're getting some sort of vapor lock. Maybe try running your boost pumps in the low setting? Maybe try doing the full Continental fuel set up? Check the fuel pressure on your engine driven pump, perhaps it's getting weak. Check your gascolator screens too. Lots of people much smarter than I on beechtalk that will probably chime in. Mike

Hi MT, yes to the ID. Absolutely good to know I’m not unique with these symptoms. Agree on the vaporizing, and that explanation was suggested by the Director Of Maintenance at Triad Aviation at KBUY. Already went through setup twice (engines have 40hrs sreman),gascolator, and “low” on the electric pump has no effect, but boost on high floods it out.
I’m not flying off of H2O, so I was thinking just boost the idle rpm up to 900-1000?
I land with power on, B777 style, I tried landings power off, A330 style, and “It didn’t go well” is all I will admit to in print. I’ve never had training from a Widgeon expert pilot. Just a few hours with safety pilot with twin-beech time. I am now learning on my own.
My old engines, had low compression and camshaft spalling, and I ‘Reman d’. However, the old engines did not quit at idle like this. Does your plane idle OK?

MT, Sir, do you have a mechanical hydraulic pump on the Left engine? What idle RPM on your Left engine.
Separate issue- post office says that the package I sent was delivered.
Thanks for the assist, hope to return assist if needed.

JP Mine idles at around 600-700 RPM and yes I have the hydraulic pump on the left side, I usually increase it a little higher but it doesn't quit at 600. I got the unloader valve back; thank you!
