I was watching Battle of Britain this evening. Noticed the HE 111’s have what appear to be a throw over yoke too? Interesting.

It's a one-sided yoke, but that doesn't mean that it throws over. The right seat is where the nose gunner sat for takeoff and landing. The space in front of the right seat was left empty because it provided access to the nose gunner's position. The seat folded up and cleared a platform for him to lie prone while manning the gun. My guess is that there was only one pilot on board and if he was taken out everybody else bailed out.

Cool looking airplane. One of my favorites of that period.

I believe the Spartan Executive (1937?) had a throw-over yoke locked with a pin. There were probably earlier examples as well.
Added: Beech Staggerwing also appears to have a throw over yoke in the pictures I’ve found.

The notes below the pictures say the yoke does in fact throw-over. I suspect the nose gunner/bombardier had some cross-training so he could spell the pilot at times and take over if the pilot got hit. That was also the SOP on the British single-pilot bombers like the Lancaster.

The video at this link shows the 1911 Curtiss A1 Triad, in which a throw-over yoke is prominently featured.
