Robert, you have sharp eyes! The dorsal fin came with the airplane and there isn't any log book entry. The airplane also has the beautiful fuselage to flap fairing common to the 140 A. I see you are from Missouri, it would be an easy trip for me to come and see your airplanes.

Come on up after this virus thing ends. I’m at 3GV. I’ll buy your lunch. I’ll show you what I affectionally call our collection of crap!! I would like to fly over sometime to see your project. Robert

I ended up buying its "bigger" brother.
I got my PPL in a older 172, and this one looked like fun. Wasn't too hard on the wallet either, knock on wood. Not pretty or fancy, or fast, but should be fun for a day vfr plane.

Nice looking B model. You did yourself a favor to go with the bigger machine. I have owned both a 1946 metalized C120, 1947 fabric 140 and a ‘53 C170B for about 10 years. (Very close to your bird; mine was N3097A.) All three were dirt cheap to own and fly. The 170 is probably the most fun airplane that I have owned, just don’t be in a hurry to get there. Wish that had mine back. Happy flying! MM

As much as I like to travel with the Bonanza, on the sunny days I always wished I could set down on a nice gravel bar without worrying about the nosewheel and casting a line in the river.
It's hard to gauge on gravel bars when I drag the gear with the Bo especially when you can't see the wheels.

Beautiful 140A. The A would certainly be my pick of the 120/140 litter. Do you have any interior or panel pix? MM

How can I determine if I can remove the vacuum system from mine? It’s a 1953 and I don’t see it on the TCDS. It has a dynon so the Venturi driven AI and DG are redundant, esp with the iPad.

Ely,
If you aren’t already a member of the 120-140 Association I highly encourage you to join, its a good source for knowledge on the type. https://cessna120140.com/
As for the vacuum system, for many things on these airplanes we definitely have freedom as to modifications since the TCDS is so vague. I think to remove it you would just need someone to sign off the work.

When I have flown the tapered wing 140A, I noticed it was lighter on the ailerons than my constant cord wing 140. The A handled better.
