Yes, I considered basing something at HWD, but adding the additional 20+ mins of time to get to the airport would add more to my block time than I could make up on all but a few trips.

Oh, I looked hard at MU-2's. Always loved them. But in the end the familiarity of Commander, having come from a piston one, was what tipped it. And the fact that one came along I could barely afford.

Makes sense when SQL is an option. In my case (non-owner) there isn't much I can do about it... For most of my trips (Naples, FL, central Missouri and Northern Montana are my frequent regular trips) the extra 20 min doesn't end up being a huge factor but for shorter stuff (e.g., my Palm Springs trip next week) it definitely does.

My experience has been the changes in flight time are much less noticeable than change in fatigue post flight.

In many flights, Piaggio not noticeably faster than MU2. Ten minutes gets wasted on almost every flight due to me deciding to run back to bathroom at FBO, pax showing up late, phone call, etc. That said, the lower vibration and noise, 9psi cabin, better pressurization controller etc makes the Piaggio flight half as fatiguing. It’s a much bigger difference than I imagined. Same with being able to climb into the high 30s. I just go over everything. I think a Mustang would have a similar benefit.

That all said, you will never do a spreadsheet where a Mustang beats a Solitaire overall. Mitts is an awesome machine.

The Mustang is a LOT easier to find than your airplane!

The trick with buying a Mustang is to find one off market and buy it right... harder than it use to be, but so far we are still getting it done.

Riddle me this my friend. A broker calls me…says he has an off market airplane for sale. At what point is it no longer “off market”.

Sometimes, we’ve bought a couple of airplanes this year where the sellers didn’t want the airplanes advertised or marketed. In one case the owner called us and asked if we happened to have a client, we did, he wanted a simple easy deal and we were able to oblige him. We have one right now where we contacted the owner, he wasn’t interested in selling, but called back a month later because there was an unfortunate life event that occurred. It’s been a complex situation to navigate, but our client is getting a really nice airplane. In both of these cases, no one else ever knew about the airplanes.

I’ve developed strong relationships in the broker / dealer community over the last 20 years, I often find out about airplanes they won’t share with anyone else, because they know I have a client and I’m not going to “shop the airplane around” this is one of the main ways we find airplanes for our clients.

In other cases an owner may put the airplane out quietly to the broker community, there is a “airplane underground” where brokers share available airplanes with their friends. Sometimes these transactions make sense for us, usually they don’t. If the broker that tells me about it is direct with the owner or working with the broker who is, great. If there’s links in the chain between us and the owner, it’s not likely something we’d pursue.

Then there are “trade-ins” to the manufacturers or stocking aircraft dealers, they often want someone to commit to the airplane weeks or months before it is actually traded so they can make their deal work without having to floorplan the airplane.

Ironically, just had this happen. It's a CJ1 not a Mustang but we received a response to an email we sent back in September, the guy wants to sell his airplane but doesn't want to list it.

We've already found our current CJ1 client an airplane and it closes this month but it's likely we'll have another client soon.

This is ABSOLUTELY correct. I own a Mustang and am typed in a CJ3, as well. An M2 is old technology just spiced up some.

What do you think a cj3 is? Same old tech. An M2 is a step above the cj3 tech with the g3000 and miles above the CJ/CJ1 with upgraded Fadec engine, mtow, cruise speed.

An M2 would be a great step up from a mustang.
