Who funds the millions of dollars it costs to build and develop stuff like this? There are dozens of companies doing this stuff and a reasonable chance that only a couple receive the government contracts to make money. I know that VC firms aren't in it to give away money and not receive anything back. So wheres the funding come from?

This was a panel topic at the SmallSat convention this week. It was said the count is currently around 150 wannabe rocket companies. I’ve previously seen numbers double that, but I believe they included now-defunct ventures.

Most of the smallsat market is in fact commercial with a bit of institutional thrown in. Not a ton of government in the arena that I see yet.

Doug’s “and others” is a long list. The amount of money being thrown around in the space sector these days is astonishing.
