I thought about a Columbia really hard. Ultimately, any 4 seat traveling airplane that isn't a cirrus is going to suffer. The Col400 is a great airplane, but I wasn't interested in spending that kind of $ after Textron stopped selling them. I don't believe the G1000 on the type certificate will end up being a big problem long term, but I am disappointed with how the manufacturers haven't supported upgrades in the software.

The A36 is in a little different category as a 6 place airplane. It has more room than a Cirrus, and an older example has more useful load than a comparably priced SR22. My 1985 airframe is old, but the avionics are new, same TN system as the G3 Cirrus... it's a nice setup, and my hypothesis is that 6 seats is a differentiator from the 4 seat cirrus. Time will tell if I'm right.
