I found the cockpit uncomfortable and don't think I could sit in it for more than an hour. Seems to fit smaller folks better. My buddy was too tall to even get into the cockpit. I'm told they can take out the coffee bar to give the crew seats a little more travel. Easy to fly though. The site picture out the window for takeoff and landing is just like the TTx/Columbia.

It's the same tube as the CJ3 and CJ4. Is the cockpit really so different?

I need to sit it one and see if it's less comfortable than PC12.

3 and 4 much more cockpit room. The 4is the cats meow

It seems like the cockpit would be exactly the same. Same tube. Same windows.

It's a great time to be a SETP pilot/owner. M600 (with Autoland for Christ's sake!), 940, PC12, and now the E1000. What an amazing selection. Come on Denali, you're missing all the fun.

4 isn't same tube, same windows. It's entirely different animal than the rest of CJ series. Windows are glass, no hot air over windows. Different hydraulic system than the rest of CJs. Much different/better avionics integration and cockpit layout than rest of CJ4. Entirely different wing. It's a real jet.

Yes, much more space all around. Slimmer console, no trim wheel in your knee, no circuit breakers poking your left arm. The avionics integration level is day and night, too. It's a proper PL21 implementation from the big iron not the CJ3 boondoggle. As good as anything from Garmin or Honeywell once you figure out the "reverse polish notation" and copy and paste of the FMS. Not sure why anyone would buy a used CJ3 with CJ4 available used for about same price other than maybe few hundred feet of takeoff distance (give or take a million that is). And unlike a Phenom 300, it's still more or less a straight wing and behaves as such.

Much better heating and cooling up front as well than the rest of CJ line. I've got about 600 hours as right seat "passenger" in CJ4s and it was by far my favorite corporate aircraft I've ever had the pleasure of using. Never left us stranded. Never had any performance worries departing high altitude airports in France and Switzerland. And on anything under about 1200nm flight, it hauled ass with no concern for fuel. It's a real 4 hours in the air at high speed cruise jet.

The Epic certainly has potential but it appears to be rather light on luggage space.

Or did I miss something when reviewing their web site?

You're correct. Easy to fill the cabin before going over gross. Duffel bags go a long long way to making things fit.

A TBM style cargo door would be nice.

Not to be a downer, but Epic now has a Type Certificate, a big accomplishment that took a large amount of time and money. Next step is a production certificate, which will require a bunch of time and lots more money. Don’t sell that TBM, Pilatus or King Air just yet.

What do you mean? Success is assured - just like the Eclipse, SJ30, etc. :hide:

I lusted after the Epic before relenting and bought a TBM. I would be hard pressed to give up my big door and seat removal, freight capability now.

That said I can appreciate Epic's accomplishment through adversity.
