The program will take decades and cost ~$70 billion. Yes, it is a V-tail!

going to move tilt-rotor technology forward a bit. We see the 609 tilt rotor in flight around the philly area now and then:

When the last V-280 is delivered to the museum, the crew will fly home in a Blackhawk.

I respectfully disagree. I think the 280 and 60 crews will fly back on a Chinook!

That probably shouldn't be in green! I don't think the Army will cling to their Blackhawks any longer than they have to, but the Chinooks could be around a while.

I debated the green!

Truth is, we're hearing 2045 the earliest, but a replacement hasn't even been actively pursued yet. Block II Chinooks are just beginning to deliver, and there's some future technology developments on the drawing board that will go into it down the line.

That being said, I am looking forward to seeing what the V-280 can do. It's going to require the Army to change. A lot.

In any case this is a great win for Textron. Maybe this is just the financial shot in the arm they needed to dust off the old forming dies and start stamping out new ruddervator skins. Eh? Eh?

We have a MTR that runs more or less over our neighborhood. It's not often, but from time to time we get V22s running the low altitude route just above the trees. They give plenty of notice of their impending arrival. I hope they are well armored, because they are loud enough to wake the dead.

Tilt rotors are the new flip phones. I think Mitsubishi should reinstate production of the MU-2 fuselage and add some tilt rotors to it for civil transport.

Well, for those of us that flew Hueys and Cobras, we’ll be another step removed. Would be nice to see more specs.

That is the truth!

We were on vacation in Navarre Beach, not far from Hurlburt Field where Spec Ops operates Ospreys out of. There was a pair of MV-22s that appeared to be practicing tactical assaults approaches from out in the Gulf onto the beach just east of us. You could hear them before they even came over the horizon at low level. Definitely not sneaking up on anyone.
