I made some fairings that made a clean installation of the AeroLed's wingtip LED nav/strobe lights on a cessna 172.

You can find the 3D files on
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4788076

Make sure you print them in something UV resistant.

Use at your own risk, feel free to share with others.
This was on a cessna 172M with stock wingtips.

Those look like Whelen lights to me.

Wilco sells a nice adapter for those.

If your wingtips are in poor condition I highly recommend buying fiberglass ones from Stene that specifically fit the LED lights, we did this on a 182H and really like the result

I think faring around a nav light pretty clearly falls in
the definition of minor alteration.

My IA had no issues with it. (I installed these during the annual just completed)
My A+P (me) had no issues with it either :-)

Your Mechanic may agree or disagree.

Nice Orion 650! I like how you mounted them, very creative!

James,

Is there a newer model of the 650 out now?

Sort of. There is the Orion 650 400 effective model. This light was designed for aircraft with newer type certificates. I think like 1978 and later. It only comes in 28V and that standard required a slightly brighter anti-collision and position light. So if you can replace your A650 with the Orion 650-400 (OR6502G4 and OR6502R4). I think Airtractors use these. You can't tell the difference in brightness really but it is a better looking light IMO.
