Someone here suggested doing GUMP on every landing even if I'm not flying the RG, and that's helping me.

I do that. Cessna 172, rolling out on final; Gas (both), Undercarriage (down and welded), Mixture (Set), Prop (Turning). It keeps the mnemonic standard across airframes and makes you think about it at the same time.

I do the same thing. Moving between the C182 and H35. They have similar landing speeds and power settings...so they both get (3) GUMPS checks, one before each leg of the landing.

It seems to me the gear switch is going to train Cirrus pilots to move to a retract. And very few will move to their jet. So, does Cirrus have a single engine retractable in the works?

This plane is for flight schools training pilots to move up to airlines, not for entry level Cirrus owners to buy in at a low price. I suspect Cirrus won't even sell one to a private individual.

I’d rather have a fake landing gear handle in a Cirrus than a fake parachute handle in any other single... :duck:

I learned to fly Amphibians...
(My dad had a mostly float plane operation in Ketchikan)

To this day I say landing on Land, configured for Land...
(Also still remember "landing on water configured for water.")

Yes, that is shortsighted.

I suppose that as a company they don’t have the landing gear litigation experience that Beechcraft had/has. Putting controls backwards from industry standards (even fake controls) is an ambulance chasing lawyers dream.

If this trainer catches on, they will switch it someday.

I’m waiting for the plane that has a fake ATM machine in the panel that spits out cash every time you go flying.

Aviation is ruled by attorneys. If the 22T is a step up to SF50 put a defense in for retract training. I know it builds reps but we put actuations in for capabilities that don’t exist? I call gimic.

The fake gear switch on the new Cirrus trainer is not near as realistic or elegant as the ones on the Sundowner.

...and it won't sound the same if they forget to lower the gear either.

After I transitioned to retractable aircraft, I always used GUMP.
I needed to get checked out on a C-172 a year ago and every time turning final I did my GUMPs check. The instructor said,"Well, you will never forget"
I replied," That's kinda the purpose right" and i would say "down and welded".

Just an ingrained habit now. I did get that weird feel that on every downwind I was forgetting something, as not much to do in a 172..........

But it's not welded, it's bolted! :peace:

Yes- I know why the fake gear switch it there..............but
I will say if Cirrus can put a fake gear switch on their plane, perhaps Textron should put a fake chute handle in the Bonanza??
